Annual Met Council Rules Meeting, Saturday, Dec. 12th

The annual Rules Meeting of the Metropolitan Council of Sports Car Clubs will held on Saturday, December 12th, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the home of the current Rules Chair, Steve Garnjobst. Members from all Met Council clubs are welcome to attend.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and agree on what changes (if any) will be proposed for the 2010 Met Council Autocross Series Rules. Proposed changes will then be provided to all Met Council Clubs for review. Club representatives will vote on any proposed changes at the February Met Council meeting.

If you wish to propose any changes, please submit them to me by December 9th, so I can distribute an agenda to member clubs. I already have the following discussion items on my agenda for the meeting, based on previous discussions with members:

    1. Add STR and SMF to the list of supported SCCA Supplemental classes.

    2. Renew BP as a supported SCCA Supplemental class. Note: this class will be eliminated after 2010.

    3. Split existing Street Tire Index (T) class into three classes by driveline type (RWD, FWD, AWD). The classes would be designated as R, F and A.
    OR
Split existing Street Tire Index (T) class into two classes by driveline type (RWD, FWD/AWD). The classes would be designated as R and F.

    4. Institute noise limits for Met Council events. The rule would set a base limit and allow clubs to set more stringent levels, based on individual site requirements. Add exception that allows vehicles to exceed SCCA exhaust system length limitations in order to meet sound restrictions. Options for base limit: 100dB OR 103dB

    5. Split SI into two or three classes by drive type (RWD, FWD, AWD) OR (RWD, FWD/AWD).

    6. A number of potential changes to the SI class, aimed at encouraging more drivers to migrate from SI to "regular" classes.
    a. Re-name SI to Novice (N).

    b. Change rules to award trophies to the top 10% of SI drivers, and ban trophy winners from running SI at future events.

    c. Change the rules to require that SI results not be published.

    d. Change the rules to set a time or event count limit on SI participation. Note: I have no idea how we would track this - especially between clubs.

    Thanks!

Just went to mark this down on my calender and discovered that Dec 8th is a Tuesday...and rule ideas should be in the day AFTER the meeting (i.e. Dec 9th)? Should the meeting date be Dec 12th?

The thread title had the incorrect date (now fixed). However, the message itself stated the correct date, which is December 12th.

Please RSVP me via PM or email if you plan to attend, so I can plan snacks & refreshments accordingly.

Before I vote, what is the logic behind splitting it FWD+AWD and RWD? I see two potential logics in splitting them this way, just wondering which the proposed rule is using.

The proposal doesn't use either. The proposed Met Council rules leave Street Tire the way it is now.

As for how the cars are split for two groups, that's the most common method I've seen used by other clubs. The numbers seem to work out fairly well, plus weather dependancies aren't as great with RWD on it's own.

I voted for splitting into 3 T-classes because that's the direction I hope and anticipate it eventually goes.

That being said, I think that for 2010 it should remain one mega-class for logistical reasons. Mainly for consistency with Met-Council.

We'll have a clearer idea of how Novice bumping will impact T-class this season and make changes for 2011 accordingly. If T-class is less than optimal this year, life will go on.

I would like to see it split into 3 classes with ~6 season trophies each instead of having a 14th place trophy on the mantle. Just not sure that for 2010 it's that critical (with the Met Council classing already set).
