This may be a stupid question, but if I'm registered for M6 and my car is down for the count on the day of the event, can I bring a different car? I'm in SI. I'm hoping I get it ready in time, but my schedule may not allow it.
If it's allowed, I'd be bringing my 2003 VW GTI (20th Anniversay Edition) instead.
Here's my issues with the Corrado:
I'm installing Wilwood calipers and I'm running into issues left and right. First the pads were too thick for the caliper/rotor combo so I fly cut 0.020" from the pads on mill. Then the caliper adapters weren't centered so I had to shim them. Then the adapters were interfering with a tab on the knuckle so I had to do some grinding there. Now the calipers don't clear the SSR's so spacers are on the way. At least the stud conversion went smoothly...
Oh yeah, I'm putting in a new passenger side window regulator in my free time as well.
If I drove that car as much as I worked on it, I might be a much better driver...
Thanks in advance,
murph

no problemo, especially in SI.
if you can tell it's not going to work, save yourself some time and change your car on mae, otherwise you'll just need to tell the folks in the timing trailer after the drivers' meeting. (not because we care what car you drive, especially in SI, but it helps to know we've got the right number when we look at the car and it matches what the computer thinks it is)

Roger that.
Thanks!
Like the mysterious Josh Berman BMW 328 and the Honda Element at MOWOG 5.... :D

I heard that the 20th AE GTI's were specifically excluded from all MAC events because they are so cool they make all the other drivers feel bad for having a crappy car in comparison :)
Well, all the other dirvers with the exception of those that have 337's ::cough::
As stated, you can bring any car as long as it passes tech.
and good luck getting the brakes working... I hope you can get it done in time but otherwise I will be keeping an eye on how the 20th does out there.

Boy, I would've loved to get my hands on a 337 when they came out but they were extremely difficult to get a hold of. I put a down payment on my 20th AE at Westside VW before they even knew what it was. I got the first Imola Yellow one in the state (#959). A few months later, I see a guy a few blocks from me bought one as well. Yup, pretty exclusive...:(
I've never done much with the GTI other than drag race, but I think it's ready to see some other action. I'm runnin H&R Race springs, Bilstein Sports, Ground Control camber plates (-2.0 degrees camber up front with neutral toe for the street), Neuspeed 28mm rear swaybar, stress bars, TT control arm bushings, VF engine mounts, lightweight battery, stock (heavy) O.Z. Aristos with RT-615's along with the usual bolt-on engine mods (Revo Stage 2, GHL 3" turbo back, TyrolSport side mount intercooler, hard IC pipes, DV relocation, underdrive pulleys, EVOMS intake, Samco inlet, etc.) Oh yeah, and a stubby antenna...gotta have that.

Check out my perfect RT! Woo hoo! I'll probably never do that again. Just gotta work on those 60 foot times...

doesn't matter you will still be slow! :P j/k all the mods in the world won't make up for a slow driver! oh wait....that sounds like me!?! ;)
what are you doing re-engineering engineered pieces? assuming you bought a kit, you should be stringing them up by their toe nails.

That is VERY true! I don't expect to be too quick with that rig. Heck, I'm not too quick in the Corrado either! I'll blame it on the open diff in the GTI...
The kit from MMP was only the caliper adapters and brake lines. I'm using the calipers from the kit I designed for my Saturn. Being able to buy those adapters saved me lots of CAD hours and reverse engineering. So, I can handle a little tweaking here and there. I'm better at that stuff than driving the car anyway. :D

I blame it on that big lump of lead that is under the hood that is IN FRONT of the drive axles!!!! :bang head:
Those cars would be soooooooo much better w/ an aluminum block or if they could have moved the motor back and down a few more inches. Not to mention coming factory w/ better cams, an lsd, and varible geometry intake manifold! :P
