I thought mowog 4 was a good event.I think we found some things that work and some things that didn't. I was impressed by the quick thinking on the behalf of a few people that helped make the timing glitches all but go away. 5 runs on long course with no rain all day was good thing. I am little shocked that 150 entrees and we still cant fill worker groups.(so whats up with that) As usual some people stepped up and helped were it was needed to finish the event.(thanks Nikki for signing me up for marshaling)I have never done it before and it wasn't half bad.( Following in the great ones footsteps here hehe)

thanks to everyone who helped out to make this a successful event.

We had a couple timing issues and a car failure that caused some reruns but we ran 152 cars through today and I think that is a record for DCTC.

We learned some things and tried some things but overall it went pretty well.

When people step up to help, it makes these events much, much easier to run.

I think the event went awesomely considering the issues that came up. When we were an hour behind schedule and the timing system had more problems, I was afraid we might not get any 2nd half runs. I'd like to thank everybody who worked hard to get things sorted out and let us get 5 runs in today.

I had fun!! brought my 15 yr old son, he liked the variety of cars, ( so did i) hadn't done this in 6 yrs, ( since st. Cloud) It was alittle confusing, as to what to do and when to do it, so as to try and keep things moving, but, would like to come back at future event and try again!!!! 8) regards Greg ( with the only Infiniti there) lol.....

Hey it doesn't matter the car, as long as you are having fun!

I had the only Saab there, and my buddy had the only Datsun :D

Sometimes it's fun to run something out of the norm :p

Was a pretty fun day. Other then some problems that could'nt be helped, it ran pretty smoothly.

As for course setup, it was pretty fun. It was fast. Then slow...LOL But it was rather easy to read...don't know if thats good or bad. But I actually liked the slaloms the way they were setup. Maybe because the car actually handled them pretty well. It was the difficult Acute 75degree turns that was alittle harsh on the drivetrain. ;)

Of course was alot of fun in STS again. Alot of close competition...again...:rockon

Congratz to Pat H. for his awesome finesh in SM2...LOL

From what I saw people did step up. There were 4 people that strolled in to station 3 heat 3 just before the first car went off. It's ridiculous how easy it can get with more people. I bet the audit writer and radio man appreciated not running. They shouldn't have to.

Good job on the announcers for calling people to action.

That slalom section is hell to marshal when you're short people, but with the amount of people (even with the co-EM there) it was cake and we were able to catch every cone and DNF with ease. Props to us all. :rockon

Thanks to all who ran the event, or sacraficed time to work, if not even drive. Also thanks to the competitiors. Thanks for the food as always, etc.

I had a good time driving, I thought the course was going to be very fast at first, but found out it wasn't as easy reading as I initially thought in course walks.

Working in the timing trailer was a great experience to hear and see how it all works, and to get my head wrapped around the Audit system - work in progress. Hell there was a DNF not recorded in the 3rd heat I found..

Can't wait to see pix!

Well that was another great MAC event. Special thanks to Steve M for taking the EM position. With the extra entrants, new procedures, unusual car failure and a lot of new folks I'd say it went quite well. Also thank you to Lee for the ride and instruction and all the other workers who make these things possible.

See you at the T&T.

Despite the challenges, today was a rousing success! We tried an audit system that appears to have caught a number of errors, we worked through timing and computer issues, and we still got 5 runs! That's 2 better than many SCCA events!

I saw a lot of hustle out there today, and everyone seemed to be working well. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to fill in gaps where needed. This level of help makes a lot of difference.

Thanks to everyone from the EM's to the real rabbits - the cone pickers!

Good job everyone! DCTC can be a pain when things start to go wrong, and everything that tried to go wrong today got the attention it needed to keep everything moving. Sure we "only" got 5 runs, but I've been to events with less than half this many cars on smaller courses and we got 3-4! I sai "GOOD JOB FOLKS.....WE ROCK!"

And I also wanted to thank Steve G again for letting me play with his car. It's not every guy that will let you get FTD is his car..... ;)

Another good event. Great weather. Lots of fun trying to burn off the rest of last years A6s (now with 141 runs on them - will they ever die?) and nice to see Christopher putting a different car through its paces. Even though it was tough for the course workers, a lot of folks put on a good show for the spectators. Oh, and on-site hot food - yum.

Another great day with MAC (great people, great course, great fun). We should have more long course layouts. It allows a couple of small mistakes without eliminating the possibility of a decent run (for me, a little less frustrating). I guess it would also reward those who could go the distance without any miscalculations (for me, impossible).

Loved the course Mark… One of the best technical courses I’ve seen at DCTC, very hard to design… Really liked the offset element after the first slalom…

Appears as though Josh like the BMW flavored Kool-Aid… Brings back first year memories running against Josh in ES…

Bit of a slow start to the day but in the end a “most excellent” event…

Steve M and Mark thanks for taking this event on…

Another great event.

Thanks to: Nancy, for letting the Paul mobile make the trip, and the 3 drivers who made use if it and donations to the Paul fund.

To Mike Sitzenstock, for letting me brutalize his Boxster. Odd, driving a car with an accelerator pedal, (Boxster) rather than a gas pedal (914). Had problems all day with throttle modulation- A little to much and the front end would float and push, not enough and I was leaving time out there. Great fun trying to figure it all out.

To the instructors. Hot day to be spending it with a helmet on all day, and the instructor group stepped up. At least for groups 1 and 3, there were 3 of us signed up, and often 5 or more instructors out on course at any given moment. All the same guys. For both work sessions. Thats pitching in to get the job done, and part of what makes us great as a club.

Although the day was great fun, I really just felt like I drove horribly, and never did get a run I was pleased with. I was testing out a new front swaybar and new alignment, and the car felt very controllable, I just drove like crap.

I think it might have had something to do with not getting a lot of sleep for 2 days, and not focusing well. The tight areas were getting me big time... once i even paniced, grabbed the shift to go to first, and forgot to rev-match and got a nice little grind (im sure some heard).

Hats off to Andres and Mike in AS! great driving and awesome times. I wasnt much of a threat all day for you guys. I knew places that I left time out there every run, but even if I nailed everything I still dont think I would have been in the 68's. You guys were flying!

All n all, it was great to see everyone, and spend a nice day in the perfect weather! Thanks, as usual, to everyone who worked hard to put this event on.

When I was putting them out in the morning, I was thinking that I usually put the stuff on the left side of my grid spot. Hey, but what could go wrong, eh? The black marks imply that I got into them one inch. Was that with the back wheel or the front?

I talked to kevin about this, the thing is, I wouldnt expect them to last the year, and Im not in a position to buy a new set of tires until next year (ideally). Im trying to build up a reserve incase of a broken diff, or something like that.

Its so hard to resist tho! I may be putting them on after a few more events and sell all the Avons I have, cuz man... AS is getting rediculously fast!

I think they hit your rocker panel first (when I heard the commotion and looked over) than I saw the rear tires hit.

Now that they have battle scars they can be your official lucky bins :p

If you're hoarding a set of A6's, I wouldn't let them sit idle too long. Hoosiers don't tend to age well - use them while they're still in their prime!

Thank you to everyone for a really fun event. I really enjoyed the long course layout. The second half of the course was truly thrilling...the long slalom into that deceptively short sweeper had my smiling from ear to ear on each run.

I also really appreciate everyone being so patient with all of my newbie questions, confusion, etc. Thanks especially to Nikki at the registration table for slowly walking me through where I had to be and when, and the lady checking people in for their work assignments. Learning about how the events work really adds to the enjoyment. I hope to become more involved in the very near future...

they are pull offs with decent life left (but they were free), so they probably arent amazing anyways. I just know if I wear them out, I wont be able to convince my self to put Avons back on, so then I'll have to buy a set and deal with the repercussions back home!

The bad part is... 5 events on the Avons, including 2 on the surface at valley fair, and they barely look like they have worn down at all. At this rate, they might last me another 3 seasons.

If the A6's are already used, I'd definitely use them sooner rather than later. Hoosiers age pretty quickly, once they've been heat cycled a few times.

I KNOW, I've been there, two runs on "new" Avons, I got rid of them!!! I think my "street" tires were better than those things... if they don't show ware they're NOT stickey. If you wanna have fun, git rid of the Avons, get some good "A" tires, start wining.

First off my thanks to the course setup helpers - we got the course completely finished and the chalkers had started in by 8:15am - probably the quickest, least painful setup I've ever done.

Secondly, thanks to the course workers for getting out quickly - we didn't have to wait for workers to get the next heat started, which is always nice. Special thanks to those that jumped in quickly and volunteered to fill holes in the afternoon heats even though they had already worked. There's probably no such thing as too many people out there but there is definately such a thing as too few.

Third, my apologies for my announce skills (or lack thereof) and for the fact I couldn't annouce for all of Heat 2 and 4 - I did have to take a break to drive during those heats after all :)

Lastly, response to the course seems to have been positive - or at least no one tried to punch me in the nose for doing something they didn't like...yet. Glad everyone enjoyed. The chicane at the end of the first slalom seems to have generated a lot of positive comment - which is good since that part wasn't in the original plan. I was forced to put that in due to some bad pavement but it ended up being much better than what I had originally drawn. It was fun to realize how scared one could get going through there as courage built up throughout the day :) The course did end up being about 5 seconds longer than I had originally predicted but no harm no foul. We got 5 in and everyone had fun.

Thanks to all for making it happen.

I *loved* that bit. I was able to hustle through there quickly enough that I was actually hitting the rev limiter in 2nd on the way up the hill. And then again going down the hill the other way, which I'd predicted I would beforehand, even though my course walk buddies at the time poo-pooed the notion.

I know some people aren't especially fond of DCTC, but I always enjoy it due to the varied terrain. Sure, a flat, wide open car park is nice, but when you have to contend with varied camber, dips and rises etc, it just seems so much more entertaining to me.

Thanks for a great course, it was a blast.

I personally loved running at DCTC, being a noob,(4 race days), it was much easier to visualize the line there, with the actual roads and grass, then doing so in a sea of cones. I also liked the ups and downs, and the different surfaces, I llok forward to the next one, and I look forward to the next parking lot event, as I feel I learned alot and am progressing well. Thanks again for the great layout!!

The chicane at the end of the first slalom was one of the best parts of the course, and a part that I feel I could have gone faster through if only I'd had more courage (skill?). Good course, it was much more complex to drive than it originally walked and I feel that it rewarded those who drove well (instead of those who just have a fast car) more than most of the courses I've been on this year.

Mark, that was the funnest part of the entire course by far. On my last run, I came off the third to the last slalom cone, floored it and kept it matted to the metal all the way through that chicane up to the corner. Talk about a hairy ride. Wasn't sure it possible, and the corner workers probably saw just a little sliding there. ;) Funny thing, that felt like a very safe place to have that...just felt like there was a lot of room, and not a lot of bad stuff around it.
Anyway, great job...and yes, your announcing sucks. Ha! :)

So true. Every time I came into that slalom and felt the tires just glom onto the concrete I was surprised. If only I could have actually remembered how sticky that concrete was *before* I got to it...

Another wild day at DCTC. It was quite educational working course setup with Mark. His years of experience made it look quite easy. I Had a blast exchanging 2nd place with Phil in my fruitless attempt to catch Larry. My first run was very eventful. Ran a little too fast on cold tires and nearly paid for it on the final turn towards the finish. Pretty decent tail slide. First run of the afternoon started off good until I went to brake into the first left hand hairpin after the chicane at the bottom of the hill. Braked too hard and locked up the front tires. Almost went into the grass. That kind of spooked me for my final run and was not able to best one of my morning times. I think my Falkens are about done for. the grip is starting to go away on them. With only four hours of sleep the previous night, I was beat. Went home and fell asleep on the couch. End of story.

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work in making this event successful.

Well I havent seen any videos up yet so I figured I'd throw mine up. I cant defend any of my driving for the day. I think New Alignment + New Front Swaybar + <10hrs of sleep total over the past 2 nights = me driving like crap all day...

This run below wasnt as awful... but if you happen to stumble across the M4Run3 video I also have up there, you'll see what I mean. I just loaded run 3 because it had a fun 'drifter style' finish... not to show good driving.

anyways... run 5:

Matt - You seem to be making a bunch of excuses. I don't think you need them. The run looked pretty darn good to my novice eye. As has been suggested to you by others, a switch to some different tires might make the biggest difference but we have to play with what we're dealt. Nice driving!!

I think the feeling of excuses for a none perfect runs comes from the fact that its a 71 sec course, and for me in pittsburgh I was used to 35-50second courses. At my skill level, theres a good chance that at some point I will mess up where I knew how to take it better, but just messed it up during the run.

In a 40 second run back in pittsburgh, its pretty easy to get a run that felt as good as I could do at my skill level in atleast 1 out of 6 runs. 71 seconds of course forces you to have to be consistent, and I know thats where I'm struggling.

Tires aside, thinking back on any one of my 5 runs, I can recall spots where I know I left time out there just from bad car placement or missing a braking point, so I just never got the feeling of "Yeah, that was the run I needed!"

Matt I think you're a very good driver, you showed that before, this track was a very fast track and you needed everything working for you to make a better run, I mean skills and car potential. You are driving with a set of tires that is limiting your final performance (like me in the last events).

These are some videos of my runs, even in the last one I made some mistakes but I was in a suicidal rampage to catch Mike since he had great times..again he had new tires too..:

It was a fun event.

I think I need to stay off the cones.
13 total in 5 runs plus my final time carried 2 cones. -4 seconds would have bumped me from 18th to 3rd.
I also had a hard time keeping the rear in check and felt if I would have been more balanced I could have been a bit faster.

Adam - Damn, nice runs!

Same here... Problem for me was I broke to late for the left pin turn, shifted the car into R started to let the clutch out and knew I missed 1st, just about stoped, grabbed 1st and finished the run, bummer...
I was working at the bottom of corner one with another guy, and we saw you brake for that corner and the reverse lights came on... we both cringed!

I've always thought if BMW and Porsche (and the Lincoln LS... didn't it have a german manual?) want their reverse to the left of 1st - they should put a push down or pull up collar on it. The "stiff" gate is too easy to go through when you are driving hard.

Even with the push down method it is somewhat easy to accidently get into reverse. This is one of the reasons why I replaced mine with a lock out collar.

Anyways, I had a good time at Mowog 4; I just wished that I was a little more prepared for the event. I also fall into the lack of sleep group. But that was not the only reason for driving poorly. I installed a new rear sway bar and I had it set at full stiff. After spinouts on my 3rd and 4th runs in the first slalom I need to reconsider its setting, and be a lot smoother on my steering inputs. This course was very effective at pin pointing my personal shortcomings, the two main keys to this course (and almost every course) seemed to include slow in and fast out technique, and looking ahead.

Feel free to comment on either on.

A week late, but M4 was fun as usual. I am glad the audit system was at least attempted. In theory the 60 car check should have only cost a few minutes each heat, but in practice it felt very time consuming. I hope we continue to do audits but run the entire heat without stopping.

The course was fun and long. I posted a M4 video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD0T5gJ3Uos
...sorry about the audio. It appears when the microphone levels exceed a certain limit the camera is unable to process the number and creates a blip in track. If you have any criticisms I would be happy to hear them. I think I was overcooking the hairpin fairly consistently all day.

A month before the next event...so many free weekends. Boredom is dangerous around here...
