I am currently in Street Prepared and am thinking about evening my weight dist. by switching over to a Carbon Fiber hood. Does anybody know if this is a legal mod for this class? It attaches to all the same mounting points as the factory hood and requires no modifications. Any help is great! Thanks!! :)

A carbon fiber hood would put you into Street Mod (if your car otherwise fits into SM rules) or Prepared. The only hood swapout allowance you have in SP is to swap out for a different OEM hood available as standard or optional equipment for your car model.

p.s. If you're looking to remove weight from the front of your car, the most significant SP-legal allowances would be moving the battery to the trunk and/or removing the A/C.

My car's battery is in the trunk, stock, and the A/C is long gone. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Is your car a Miata? If so the stock hoods are incredibly light to begin with. . .

No, It's a 1990 BMW 325i. Stock hood weight is about 30-48 lbs. (depending on who you ask) and the carbon fiber ones are 12. Would be worth as much weigh savings as removing my A/C!!

Not sure but I thought the M3 hood was aluminum. I believe that would be legal.

Some M3's do have lighter hoods, however such a swap wouldn't be legal for Street Prepared. Not only are M3's (E30 in this case) on a different line in the SP classifications, they're in an entirely different class, making any parts swaps with non-M's illegal for SP.
