I've been shopping for rooms, and the prices & selection are BRUTAL. Several places are already full, and anything with more than one bed is very pricey. :(

So, thinking outside the box a bit, is anyone interested in towing my pop-up camper to the Tour, in exchange for one of the large double beds? The camper is pretty nice, and even has A/C. :rockon

I've been thinking I'd like to go to this event, but unfortunately I can't tow your pop-up or I would be game.

What do most people do- show up Friday evening, run Saturday, run Sunday, drive back to Minnesota Sunday night?

Steve,

I was thinking this same thing myself. Last year I scored a pop-up from someone I worked with at the time. I haven't run it by him yet, so maybe we can work something out.

Granted can anyone suggest decent Hotel for the area? thats close i'm not familar with the area so i'd like the closest which so far i have found is the millwaukee days inn?? how was this motel was the parking good for car with tire trailer or Pickup with car trailer?

MNbiker

Argghh! My wife informs me our camper is already reserved for that weekend. :flame:

OK, given the shortage of rooms that weekend I'm not going to mess around for a Tour event. I just reserved one of the large suites at the Country Inn & Suites. It's my favorite hotel in the area, and with two beds, a sofa bed, and space for an air mattress - the cost won't be too bad.

just booked a room at Quality Inn Brookfield for $116 a night including taxes.

So now I have an extra bed and probably some floor space available.

may not be the best for trailers though...

Never stayed at that hotel. One note - you don't need good parking for a Tour event, as you can leave everything onsite. For other events, parking can be a bit dicey for trailers at several of the hotels. The Country Inn is the best for trailers, but tends to be a bit pricey at times.

I will be booking a room, but I will not arrive until past midnight Friday night (perhaps as late as 2:00am). Long story.

So someone can share a room with me, but that person will need to check in and deal with me arriving in the middle of the frigging night.

One addition to the event schedule. Milwaukee Region is currently planning to have both a Test & Tune and an Evo School on Thursday. The Test & Tune would include two different short (30 second) courses. I'm tentatively planning to be in town for whatever they have on the schedule for Thursday.

Turns out Kerry isn't going to make it this year, so I'm looking for a cheap (imaging that) option. I have access to a tent camper I could haul out there, but I think I can split a room for less than the gas cost...

I'm planning to be there Thursday, but I can do something solo for the first night if there's something open for Friday & Saturday.

So what's left out there by now?

Pat,

It's the tent-camper I brought along last year. 3 BIG beds, and best of all....a roof air conditioner! If the motorhome is a definate no, sounds like maybe I should bring this out to be sure we have some A/C in "Little Minnesota".

Throw me some gas money to help get it there, and you've got yourself a place to stay Thursday/Friday/Saturday night!

I'll pitch in, John, if you want to bring the camper down. I'll bring my own towels to snag a shower in someone's room sometime. Not quite big enough for Central Headquarters, but we'll just have to make due! A/C sounds nice! Hope they turn the lights off this year!

Best thing to do is walk up to the tech line and ask what is required. They will give you (and/or sell you) your required stickers. Then you can walk back to your car, decorate it, then take your car back through tech.

The alternative would be to arrive in the tech line without stickers. At some national events, they will force you to put the stickers on your car at that time. So as far as I'm concerned, the best way is to decorate it yourself... (or leave your stickers on all the time...) :)

If you're talking about the practice runs, AFAIK there is no registration needed. Just show up, tech your car, then buy some tickets. When you buy tickets, they will make you sign up for an hour of work. Last year the practice runs were $2.50 each or something.

If you're talking about the Evo school, that's a different story...

Still only 156 people registered, but this thing IS going to fill up. If you're going to the event, get yourself registered!

Here is the list I have put together of the MAC contingent ("Little Minnesota" a.k.a. "the beer garden" as it is known). Am I forgetting anyone?

And what about these folks?

It shouldn't really matter, if we all paddock together. The past couple years, all of us have been in one 20+ driver group, where we leave a central area open for the tent & socializing space.

p.s. I'll be bringing a stack of cones to mark our territory, and I now have a big white trailer to establish one boundary with.

Hard to say how much more competition we'll get this year. David Newman (2006 XP champ) has come over from PA the past two years, but fuel costs seem to be significantly impacting attendance at National events this year. Do you have a co-driver for the Tour? 5 drivers is the magic number for maximizing the Hoosier contingency program.

Just a reminder: They no longer carry Hoosier stickers at Tech. You need to sign up online for contingency and order the stickers at that time. Perhaps someone else can provide the web address and more information, but a lot of people missed out on Hoosier contingency at Peru expecting that Tech would have the stickers. They do still have Khumo stickers, though.

Can i show up and tech the car haveing my street tires on it? and not haveing my alignment sent where i want it? i plan to toe the car out some but not for the drive there since i am driving the car to the event with tire trailer in Tow

Also will they allow me to do test and Tune on my street tires if i choose or do i have to have the tires i plan to run at on the compotition on at the time?

I would think both would be fine as people make changes mid-day (rain tires, alignment and wing settings) as needed. But you should hear it from someone with more experience than a noob like me. :p

washburn
07-14-2008, 03:14 PM
Tech can be done on your street tires, but you shuld have your competition tires with you to look at. On your trailer is fine. Alignments, ...dosen't matter, you can set that anytime you like...they are only teching your car for safety items, not legality. They will school you on what you need for stickers. Have money and be ready to get whatever stickers they say you will need. We can help with that stuff too.

You can do the warm up runs in any configuration you want...street tires are fine, but not sure what value you will get out of that if that's not what you're going to compete on. Let us know if you need help, and we'll have them swapped out in 5 minutes or less!

So then walking the course Friday night is that the course that you will drive on saturday? if i'm understanding things correctly The course will be diffrent From Saturday to Sunday?

And we basically get 3 runs each day?

Ivan

Yep, course walks on Friday evening are for Saturday's course. People start doing walks for Sunday's course on Saturday night (usually reversed direction with some changes, sometimes same direction with changes).

3 runs each day. Your best run from Saturday is added to your best run on Sunday for the final standings.

Hello from Iowa, I just got a call from John "heart attack" Jacobs from DMVR that I know some of you know. John is coming to Milwaukee for the NT and looking for a room. We are already full up with 4 in 2 beds so I thought I would inquire if anyone from little Mn has some room. If you do, post it to DMVR forums. Well, I suppose we claim Pat Washburn as Minnesotan (Why? I dunno...), Neal

Like I've said, I'm "bi". I can swing either way....Milwaukee or Minnesota. (But never Iowa! I have values!) I usually side with Minnesota though...not sure why. Especially after learning that the Vikings are the likely cause of Brett's 'problem'. Your Vikings have no shame!!
