This is a poll to gauge member opinions about how we should approach 2004 revisions to the Met Council Rules, which govern the conduct of all MAC autocross events. Currently, these rules are a standalone document - similar (but not identical) to the SCCA Solo2 rules. It takes a significant effort, on an annual basis, to keep the rules current. Is it time to adopt the SCCA Solo2 rules? Are we unique enough to need our own rules, or at least some additions/changes to the SCCA rules? Make your opinion be known!
Thanks!

If we adopt the scca rulebook would that allow us to use helmets allowed in SCCA rallies?
What do I gotta do to get that implemeted?:oneeye:

No. Met Council has more-stringent rules than SCCA Solo2 and I don't see that changing as long as there is a Met Council composed partially of clubs which use the insurance of national clubs which call for more-stringent rules than SCCA Solo2.

Convince the national clubs to change their minds. Start with the National Council of Corvette Clubs.
Even if you could pull this off, I would be astonished if the effort did not wind up costing you more than the cost of a Snell-approved helmet.

And here I have always considered SI the best idea you ever had for local autocrossing. You successfully fought against an effort to water down the concept by using a PAX on it, and I came to see you were correct.

Question: If the Met Council rules say something to the effect of "We adopt all SCCA rules for Stock, Street Prepared, Prepared, and Modified classes and add the following ..." are you going to publish those SCCA rules here or would it be up to each person to buy their own copy?

While it would be best for everyone to have their own rulebook, there are some folks who won't want/need to pay the ($15 member/$20 non-member) price for the SCCA rulebook & CD. While there are some indicaitons the SCCA will start posting the rules online in the next couple of years, there are some simple interim solutions:
1. Jerry Mouton has created an excellent unofficial site with the SCCA Solo2 car classification rules posted, including periodic updates (FasTracks) issued by the SCCA during the year. http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/
2. It would make sense for MAC to have a few copies of the Rules at events, so competitors/event officials can look things up, if necessary.
Note - anyone competing at a Divisional or National level will need a copy of the rules, as many events require you to actually take the book to Registration.

Actually, the price for the rules is $23 for members, $28 for non-members if you want it delivered, but my real beef is that under SCCA stock rules I can't compete on the OEM tires that I just purchased for my car (Yokohama A022H1) because according to rule 13.3.F they have to be produced in at least four different diameters. These are street times, not R compounds, but would be illegal if we adopt the SCCA rules. How many other little "gotcha's" are there?

Are you planning on going to nationals this coming year?

Dave,
If they are indeed the OE tires, then you will be completely legal. They just can't be used on a different car. FWIW - I can't imagine ANYONE giving you grief about running the stock tires on your car at an SCCA event. Street tires are going to be 1-2 seconds slower than an r-compound tire, so who in their right mind would bother to protest them?
Also, please note that if your're running in a Street Tire class, the SCCA Stock rules for tires will be null & void. Instead, the Street Tire rules for the club holding the event will dictate the requirements. In any case, OE tires will virtually always be legal.
