Sorry for the long post but this is a "NEED TO KNOW" for all club members:
The board has voted to change the bylaws to allow one member at large for every fifteen paid club members. This means we can stay at 8 members at large this year, and if we grow we can have additional at large members filling new duties as needed to "grow" the club.
I brought this suggestion up to the board and it was seconded by Dwight, here are the reasons I suggested it:
1.) The demands and number of positions needed to run the club have
changed since the by-laws were created, for example Timing/Scoring/Registration
were all done by one person in the non-computerized Flintstone era (Sorry
Dwight) while it now takes 2-3 people to organize this efficiently(and we still
have a way to go to...)
2.) New Fangled jobs needed --- despite the message board saying I
haven't signed on since 1969 I really don't think it was around til algore
invented the internet and that was just before he became president of vice, still
not sure why Tipper allowed that. This is just one example of a job that didn't
exist before.
3.) We grow partially due to the fresh enthusiastic volunteers each
year and have been lucky to have a good crop of them the past few years --- we
will always lose some to moves, pursuing motorsports at a higher level, or
family duties --- babies do change a parents interests, or at least their free
time :-)
We need to give them the opportunity to participate in a meaningful
way, not be the type of club that is run by the same people all the time, always
saying "we do it this way cause we always have..." plus their help & insight
will only help the club grow....
I have quit a classic car club recently because it was run in an exclusionary
way(to my perception).
4.) If a board member can concentrate on one area only rather than
having to wear many hats each job can be done better and we'll have less burnout.
If we go to a 1-15 ratio we can keep at 12 total board members which
as worked well the past few years, and if the club grows then we can add
more, and have the club offer different/more activities such as a TSD rally or
???
NOW, here is the current nomination situation, copied from another post:
President; Dwight McCullough
Vice president; Jeremy Engel
Editor/publisher; Jon McCullough(This is a member at large position)
Secretary; Dave kral
Treasurer; Paul Weidner
And member's at large, which have to be filled at the rate of 1 board member
for every 15 members (NOW) . Which at this time we have 125 or so members. So at a
maximum of 8 members at large.
The following names have been nominated;
Nikki ? [sorry], Keith Buemer, Steve Garnjobst, Lee Frisvold, Josh Berman,
Matt, ? [sorry], Alex Lowe, Jon McCullough, and Brian Heggestad.
Please forgive spelling errors
Dwight da prez [for now]
We currently have 9 nominations for member at large positions, plus the four officer positions. We welcome more nominations, and usually the at large person is responsible for a responsibility such as Tech, newsletter, registration etc.
If the nominated people could let us know in this thread what responsibility they are interested in that might help any other interested club member in deciding on throwing their name in the hat for a position/responsibility that isn't being filled or that they also feel qualified for.
And of course, this will also give the rest of us a little more time to figure out who to vote for...
Hope to see you all at the meeting, It's on the 19th this month, and thats the election too.
Thanks,
Paul
