No offense but I won't be coming this year. It was nice to see everyone at last years party, but it did not turn out to be much of a party to me, made a fool of myself inviting my friends, what I thought was going to be fun with car talk, movies and music, turned out to be one debate after another about MAC rules and class etc. Sat around doing nothing but listening to everyone participating in the argument.
Just my .02, I was just expecting something different, after a whole season of racing, that at the party there would be a recap of the events, with lots of laughs and memories.
Did not mean to rock the boat.

Sounds good to me. The Triumph party is on Saturday. I was afraid there would be a conflict. Since the Triumph party is the one that Sue WILL go to...
OK, so if I promise to squelch any rules arguments, will you come????
EVERYONE who is interested in autox is WELCOME!
This is supposed to be fun, for all.
Ok, if you don't like motorsports, and burning fossil fuels, hug tree's, and your hero is Algore, well then maybe you should stay home.

The success of a party is in the planning. The last couple parties just kinda "happened". There were some good elements there, but they got drowned out by "stuff".
Jon Mc has a good collection of videos and driving games. If Mr Owen can put together a slideshow of the season highlights, people would probably enjoy.
People have been to a number of events other than ours through the year. Photo Contributions from those might provide some diversion too.
MAC had a "social director" assignment for one of the board members. Let's see if we can remember who that person is, and work with them to make this a party that people will want to attend.

That's as may be, but I have always been a car guy in general and an autocross guy in particular. I have never been all that interested in motorcycles.

Question at large...
If I invited the BMWCCA to the year end party, could the club afford to float an extra 20 drinks & some snacks? I'd be willing to bring snacks & videos of this year.
Ken I'll explain this more fully.
This party is actually sponsored by the Metropolitan Council of sports Car Clubs.
Of which there are 6 or is it 7 member clubs now? [MAC, COM, Volksport, Suburban Corvettes, etc]
MAC is one of the members.
Unfortunately, this years party will only have MAC trophies given out, as there hasn't been a met council series now for two years.
There are plan for a series for 2004, as we nowhave enough sites to get all clubs involved.
But this party is and has been open to any person or club who has an interest in motor sports, particularly auto cross.
So bring on the snacks, bring on the video's!

I'm not interested in any BMW people there. Are they still in the Met Council? If not, Its because, in their past, they didn't give trophies to class winners. ( A big surprise to drivers after an event is over!) I've found their events THE WORST in organization, treatment of "guests", etc. Should we welcome them back to the fold? Will they follow the rules? Take constructive criticism from more experienced groups? WHY...We've got enough problems of our own to solve without taking on more. MY $.02.

I know how you feel. I was at a BMW event at Canterbury. The event was billed not only as a Met Council Rules event, but as a Met Council Autocross Series points event.
Won the class. No trophy. Ever. After YEARS of reminders.
It's not the car-stick. I have lots of those.
It is the refusal to honor their commitment to the entrants.
Are there individuals still in this club who were responsible for this? Probably. Is this a reason to keep members of this club away from our autocross party. I don't think so.

OK, enough said. I think most of the BMWCCA board members are snotty, "better than thou" types also. There are a few of us that are normal but don't normally attend their events for this reason. I just figured if they were told of the event, they would post it on their website, which would allow normal people to show up. Only problem is that likely some of the dry, sappy, board members would also show up. So, I won't "spill the beans".
by-gones?
everyone should feel welcome,calling them(BMW) elitists,and unfriendly
doesn't help our cause! Please join us,all car guys
Hear, hear Randy, let's let bygones be just that. Forgive and forget. I'm just glad other's can forgive me!

As I stated before, I have no problem separating
my long-standing irritation with the BMW club's failure to live up to their committments
from
my feeling that all autocross-interested people should be welcome at the party, regardless of the clubs to which they belong.

Maybe I should have worded my post a little different. Of course, I wouldn't want to exempt anyone from the party JUST because they're a member of the BMW club. That would be over-reacting. But it's still a little hard for me to swallow that the club still is a member of the Met Council, considering their record. If a club can violate rules and there's never any penalties, why have rules?
Hmmmmm? What about the rule that states: the sponsoring club is required to return entry fee's if they don't publish results?
does that apply to trophies as well?
Hmmm?

Still at the Barn! I remember pictures, car movies, bench racing, awards, pizza. What great memories of the annual parties there in those cold MN winters. Keep the discussions fun (it's a party!) and save the rules talks for this Sunday (Dec 14) and your monthly meetings. Relax and enjoy on Jan 9, remember, you live in the state that had the mid-winter riding lawnmower races, and I brag about how friendly people are in Minnesota.
Give it another shot Mushashi, I bet it'll be good this time. :alc:
In Seattle the BMW CCA I'm involved with has very friendly and helpful members. They are quite organized and the four track/school events I was in this year ran like clockwork. I thought you should know that not all BMW clubs/members are elitists or disorganized.
From one of your very own "retired" presidents,
Mark Baker
PS, I'm back in my home town of Seattle, still have my '90 Talon, but now also with two other "toys"; a '90 M3 (Russ Wiles influence) and '97 540 (which I took to Northern MN in May). I'm also becoming known as Mayhem's Pacific Northwest ProRally support crew.
Mark Baker!
Well for crying out loud!
We thought you had fallen off the edge of the earth.
So that's where you ended up.
Do we have a lot to talk about.

Dwight, Randy, Phil, (others?)
(Dwight your email, dwight@bmcautos.com didn't accept.)
an update (please forgive for the OT post):
I moved to Colorado in 1996, and only did four AX there. Steve bought Mitch Wright's Isuzi I-Mark from him in Colorado (Phil - it had the Lotus tuned suspension) which turned out to be a fun AX car. It was a prerequisite for my son Steve to be in four AX before I would allow him to go on any long drives. Thus the four AX.
Didn't participate in any other competitive auto stuff in Colorado because Steve and I were SKIING from October through June each year! (we both got into ski racing big time!)
When Steve entered the USAF Academy at the end of June 2000, I moved back to my home state, which is where I've been since then. Without my close competitor, Steve, my ski racing had tapered off so last spring I bought the 1990 M3 and headed to Pacific Raceways (formerly Seattle International Raceway) for the BMW Club's "driver's schools". WOW is that M3 fun! I've wanted an M3 ever since riding in Russ Wiles' at Owatanna back in 1990, and I finally got one!
I've spent most of this year working on the M3. I've jumped in with both feet into autosports again. I have both 17" wheels (with A032R's for the track) and stock wheels (much softer around town). I'll get back into AX in 2004. My participation was limited in 2003 somewhat by a soft job market in WA (#2 in national unemployment after OR). So I missed our BMW Club's trips to Thunderhill and Laguna Seca (loud anguish can be heard!!!) I've got to make those in 2004.
The BMW club here is incredible. We do road tours, tech sessions, model shows (one just on Saturday), traffic attorney sessions, go-kart events, wine tours, on and on... Great people, and they are just nuts about their cars. www.bmwpugetsound.com
I did work in the service area for both of Mark Utecht's ProRally trips to OR and WA, and look forward to supporting him again in March. I earned my Subaru ProRally hat!
BTW, son Steve found out last week that he has been accepted to USAF flight school and will head there after graduating from the USAFA on June 2, 2004. He is pumped!!!! He has already gotten to fly the ultimate sports cars - an F15 and an F16 - I am sick with jealously.
The Red Talon is still looking great; always kept it garaged or under cover in the UV's of Colorado. But it is currently parked and covered due to a dead water pump.
After all these years I'm kicking myself for not buying a Bimmer sooner. Yes, their plastic radiators fail, water pumps fail, electronics can have their glitches, but they are TRACK READY as built. They are the Ultimate Driving Machine. If I would have taken all the $'s I put into the Talon to get it track compatible, I would have been able to get a new BMW off the showroom floor and driven it straight to the track. And they have a great back seat with a usable trunk!
And all this car stuff got started because of my wonderful experiences in the Autosport scene in Minnesota, because of the great competition and good times with everyone there. So to all, be there; enjoy the awards party, talk about the fun you had last summer and your dreams for 2004.
