Leave it on - you don't want to miss out on the cachet of beating other drivers with a roof rack installed. :D

;) I think that was actually one of the days that I PAXed the highest last season.

Wouldn't a roof rack be illegal chassis reinforcement?

How about a roof rack with a ski box on it?

I honestly don't know. If asked I could remove it no problem. The last time I ran with it I was late to the event and didn't have the allen wrench

I think the fact of having ballast above the center of gravity would negate the benefits of the Chassis stiffening.

funny that you say that because I think thats what some would say about most any chassis stiffening parts 8)

Just looked at Google maps and saw a satelite image of the place. Are we running on what appears to be a permanent driving course on the campus?

Yeah, apparently it is used to train truck drivers

Yes, we use a large driver training facility at DCTC. The course will be a bit different for each event, and we use cones to define slaloms and other autocross elements. However, courses at DCTC tend to feel a bit like a small road racing track.

Woo Hoo! I'm all for that. Think it's possible my Ford Slowcus will have to see 3rd gear on such a course?

i am guessing no, unless your focus has an incredibly short first and second gear. Its an autocross, not a road race.

Not to mention that DCTC has a top speed requirement that we have to meet by course design.

I was hitting the rev limiter in a couple of places last year on one course, but I had slightly shorter gearing due to my tyres. Another 2.5RS on slightly larger tyres did not hit the limiter. However, neither of these places merited an upshift as they were just before the braking zones for the next element. As others have said, this is autocross, where "speed" and "quickness" on the course are not necessarily the same thing.

Stuart.

What is that top speed requirement? I am curious how close we are to it on some of the courses we had last year.

Somewhere around 50 to 55 MPH. Even so, we've had incidents that have caused damage. You just have to have the right frame of mind going there, because you can do damage. Not trying to down talk the site or anything, it's a lot of fun, just giving you a heads up that there is little run off room, and dropping wheels of the pavement is a big no-no. Dialing it back a wee bit is usually what I try to do.

Absolutely. When you were showing me how to drive the Cow Car and spun it, you stayed on the pavement.

This is good advice. There is also a couple of spots that the surface will drop pretty quick. Challenging if you are trying to brake, corner, or do both at the same time. I spun out into the gravel there once and I wasen't even going very fast but the spin it self was extremly fast. I hit the drop just right and around I went. It all happend very quick, not to mention I felt like an idiot.

It's going to happen....I would never say it won't happen to me or anyone else.

I'm not saying I'm dogging it either. But when there is a section that I "know" I could do just a little faster, I take a step back and look around and decide that maybe I don't need to chance it that much. Especially when it's not my car, which it usually isn't. :) On a parking lot, I would go for it, but not there.

In all seriousness, you are right on the money. It is not the place for experimentation. A big homogeneous car park is better.
