I Have been watching the board & the only "Upcoming Events" people are talking about seem to be in Iowa & Illinois during this same weekend. Please have a board-member verify that this weekend is still a go at Midway.
-Thanks

Yessir Ken.
MAC just keeps marching right along.
We will be there!
Will I be there with my MG? I'm glad you asked.
Dunno just yet. I may co-drive Paul's Mini. It has power steering, and MG's never did.

But Mowog IV will be put on, rain, shine, gales, hail, snow?

Darryl,

I'll be there for Registration, and will print off forms for those who have pre-registered. I'll try to be there by 7:30am to help get Registration set up. Based on MOWOG III, we could use 4 people at the check-in table from approx. 8:15 - 9:15. 1-2 people can probably cover after 9:15.

Related note: We really could use a checklist for helpers at the entrance gate. For example, a couple drivers didn't get their pre-printed forms last event, because someone forgot to ask if they had pre-registered. Here's my swag at a checklist, based on my experience at MOWOG III:

1. Have them sign Waiver form, give wrist band.

2. Did you pre-register? If yes, give pre-printed form. If not, give blank form.

3. Do you have a reserved Met Council Car number? If yes, write on registration form. If no, get number list and have them select a number. Ask if they have permanent numbers for their car. If not, point out the available tape.

4. Do you know your car class? If yes, write on registration form. If no, help them determine the proper class.

5. Review subsequent steps (complete form, go to Tech, go to Registration table to pay & select work assignment) and point out the locations.

One possible change - if we have run groups ready in advance, can we have drivers sign up for work assignments at the initial check-in table?

Steve & Dave,
I will also be there, I talked to Rex today and he is thinking of doing ALL checkin/payment at the gate, I assume this means multiple rows of cars being checked in. The Co-Ems are all getting together on Thurs nite to plan...
My concerns with doing it all up front are:

1.) Will the cars back up too far on the road, and will we be told to get them out of the way.

2.) Tech is busy enough w/o doing the final check on the registration forms, there are always several forms with missing info, once they are parted from the form if it's not complete we can't put it into the computer and someone has to find them. Maybe we can still have someone collect them and do a last check, this person would start later and continue after the gate closes...

3.) There will be one clipboard per run group and one folder with the pre-registered forms, if we have cars in several rows and they all need the same clipboard or are pre-registered this could cause a bottleneck.

The form is a great idea, we will also need add "see the drivers license" to the list too if we do it all up front.

I am adding my plea for more volunteers as well, we need to have enough so this runs smoothly AND all volunteers get a chance to set up their cars/get teched and walk the course several times...

My two cents worth, maybe even a nickels worth...
Paul

That's pretty close to what I found that they do in Milwaukee. (See June Right Line) Having the run groups already established is, of course, essential to doing this, so the process of recruiting workers could be eliminated from the driver's meeting.

With regard to having people sign up for work assignments at the initial check-in table, you might want to consider how many check-in / registration steps you're puting at that one location. I observed that new people in particular needed some coaching (and additional time) to get matched up with a work assignment. This process has the potential to cause a backup at check-in, which might defeat the attractiveness of pre-registration. Since choosing a work assignment is something that is expected of everyone - pre-registered or on-site registration - it might be cleaner to have a work assignment station at the trailer, that people can go to after they park their cars.

The drawback to that approach, though, would be that you can't be sure everyone will come up and select a job. Probably the best way to deal with that would be to emphasize that everyone is expected to sign up for a work assignment. You could of course match up the entry list with the work assignment sign up later.

MOWOG IV

We are planning on the same procedures used for MOWOG III.

Arrive.

Sign waiver and receive wristband. Receive registration form; please mention if you registered on line.

Paddock your car.

Complete your registration form (If you don't have a number or class go to the registration table near the trailer).

Prepare your car for tech.

Have your car tech inspected and your registration form signed by tech.

Return your car to your paddock area.

Go to registration.

Pay.

Pick your work assignment.

The course should be set up by 9:00 so start walking it. Please walk the course just before the drivers meeting; sometimes course adjustments are made just before the drivers meeting.

Driver's meeting at 10:00 (about 15 minutes).

Same Run Work Rest order, if your in run group 1 stage your car. If you're in run group 3 please report to your assigned workstation.

The goal is first car off at 10:30.

Three sets of two runs are the most likely run format.

If all goes well we will finish up about 3:30.

Fun runs for about one hour.

Clean up and trophies.

The best explanation of an event plan and event procedures I've seen, Darryl. Clean, simple and consistent.;)

Everyone planning to enter Sunday at Midway should take note of Darryl's post. Better yet, print it out and bring it with you.

Excellent job, Darryl. The event should go well. :)
