Please take note; July 12, 2003 at Afton Alps, a hill climb put on by the Minnesota Austin healey club.

Hey Dwight,

We welcome your participation, whether you are driving an MG, Porsche,
Checker Cab, or Segway. A friend of mine even wants to run the course on
foot, so we may have a pedestrian class, after all the cars have run, of
course!

As far as help with the event, push push! I'll probably be waving the green
flag all day, but timers and corner workers will need breaks, so we will be
happy to have your assistance. Thanks!

Please publicize this event to all your autocross buddies. We would like a
big turnout. Registrations are rolling in via mail, but I'm expecting most
people will just show up and pay $15 to run.

I'll be happy if 25 cars show up, but I'll be ready to handle 60 if
necessary. I just need to get some idea of how many people will be having
the buffet that the folks at Afton are serving from noon to 5pm.

If you don't mind, I'll probably contact you again next week to get your
best estimate of how many of your people from the MAC will attend.

See you on the hill!

- Tom

P.S. Our Austin-Healey club held an autocross at the Brown and Bigelow
parking lot two weeks ago, and I took FTD in my little Sprite. Did that
last year too. Zoooooooom!

Tom, will MG's be welcomed?
What about Porsche's?
I'm going to try to get my son Brian to drive my car. He has been a member
of MMGG as I have. And he has been in your club as well.

OK, so do you all get it?
Go to, www.mnhealey.com

There will show a site and a map of the area.
And a registration form that has to be mailed in.

Hmmmmmmm?

Maybe another venue for US!

Dwight,

The B&B lot is not good for us for several reasons:

It is a shared lot with UPS, just concrete barriers at the end of the UPS rows and no way to control that end of the lot.

No staging area, not a problem with 20 cars, we can just park on the edge of the lot.

Lots of permanent pylons (light posts).

As for the hillclimb, there is no way we could call that an AX course for insurance purposes, the road does not have full railings and it would be too easy to go off and down the dropoff/into the trees. At a classic car club level with marque insurance it may be affordable, but not at our level with many non-members participating with multiple skill levels...

I was thinking pretty hard about it, but not after last sunday. The Jetta pretty much gave everything it had left down at Waterloo. I don't think it's going to be up for it.

This sounds like a hoot. I'm planning on coming, Dwight. Looks like it's too late to send in the pre-registration form, so I'll pay my $15 at the gate.

Will I have a Mini to fight with, Paul?

Dave,
Yes the MINI will be there, not sure how fast I'll be attacking the hill tho --- I'm used to AX with no dropoffs or trees nearby... Still it'll be fun.

OK, so here's the whole scoop folk's.

Hi Dwight,

Just a quick message to get your best estimate of how many people from the
MAC will attend the hillclimb on Saturday. Also, how many of those
attending will pay an extra $10 for the buffet luncheon. Any half-educated
guesses you can provide would be appreciated.

Below is the email I recently sent to everyone who pre-registered, just for
your information.

Hope to see you and a bunch of your friends on Saturday!

Regards,

Tom

Dear Hillclimb Driver,

Thank you for pre-registering for the Afton Alps Hillclimb. Members of the
Minnesota Austin-Healey Club have prepared a great event for Saturday, July
12 at Afton Alps. For your friends who didn't pre-register, they are
welcome to show up as early as 8:30 am for day-of-show registration.
Drivers will run in the order they are registered, so tell them to arrive
early!

The six-day advance weather forecast looks good, but of course this is
Minnesota, so you never know. I will make the "Saturday or Sunday" decision
at 6:00 pm this Friday. If the weather looks at all iffy, check your email
after 6:00 pm, or call me at 612-237-1883 to find out which day we will hold
the event.

Please check the list below and reply by Tuesday with any missing
information about your vehicle.

We also need an accurate count of those who will be purchasing the $10
all-you-can-eat buffet (described below). Please reply by Tuesday with a
yes or no on that.

Also, if you know of other club members or friends who will be registering
day-of-show, please let me know, so I can get the most accurate attendance
estimates, both for drivers and for buffet eaters. I'm interested in
"definites" and "maybes".

ALL DRIVERS MUST ATTEND THE MANDATORY MEETING AT 10:00 AM IN THE PARKING
AREA AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL

Please arrive before 10:00 to get signed in, receive your wristband, and go
through tech inspection. There is no charge for spectators, but all
attendees on the property will be required to sign a waiver. Chilled soda
and water will be available free of charge in the parking area at the bottom
of the hill. Please note that there is no shade in the parking area.
Sunscreen, parasols, and tonneaus are recommended. It's never TOO sunny,
right?

The smorgasbord-style buffet will be served from noon to 5:00 pm in the
banquet room at the golf course club house. It will include:

- cold cuts: ham, turkey, roast beef

- various sliced cheeses: Swiss, cheddar, cojack, mozzarella

- bread and/or buns for sandwiches

- mayonnaise, mustard, sliced tomatoes, lettuce

- regular salad bar including all the usual items

- potato chips

- fruit salad

- potato salad

- self-serve soda dispenser, water, lemonade, iced tea

- chocolate chip cookies and brownies

Beer and wine will be available for an additional charge. Attendees may
also choose to purchase burgers in the bar.

If all goes well, we will be able to run cars until about 4:00 pm. Awards
will be presented in the banquet room at about 5:00 pm.

They can of course run the hillclimb in it. If you know of anyone who might
be interested, please ask them to contact me.

If you have any questions, feel free to send email or call me at
