For those of you who missed last weekend, here's another opportunity! Last Sunday was a blast!. Big lot, fast course. There was something for everyone from Corvettes to Yugo's (No Yugos were harmed - or showed up).

Registration opens at 9:00 cost is $20 for non members, $15 for SCCA members. See the previous post (last week's) for times.

I've run at Waterloo at couple of times now, and have enjoyed it. On Sunday, four local MAC members, plus Chris and Adam were there. I'm planning on going back again this weekend. :)

Paul, did you get your windshield fixed?

I'll be there! I'm picking up some stock wheels/tires from a guy tomorrow, so I don't have to wear out the Azenis on long drives to events any more. :)

Adam, the WRX is well-dialed and ready for you. Sounds like you'll have TWO cute cars to drive on Sunday! :p

-Steve

p.s. I'm unleashing the straight pipe this weekend. Everyone will DEFINITELY be able to hear the Rex roar now! :D

Steve, Have you concerned switching to the dark side and running race rubber?

Why do you want to baby the Anzenis's? They are street tires and damn cheap street tires at that. You might as well run them into the ground and buy new ones more often then treating them like race rubber. Or with a second set of rims mount some kuhmo's or hoosiers's.

Steve has a good point. The wear and tear on an Azenis "in transit" is really minimal compared to wear under "combat conditions". Not having to swap tires at the event site is the reason for having the Azenis in the first place. (Drew, are you listening too?)

LOL! :hoho Yes Chris, I know you've been shaking your head as I put on and take off my Falkens at the event. Of course you know that the real reason I switch tires is so I can make the trip down to Iowa on my "luxury" Fleet Farm tires.;)

To all you AX junkies:
It's official, the MINI has a new windshield and I'll be there on Sunday as long as it's dry...
Anyone want to meet at the McDonalds at the truckstop in Lakeville at 5:30 and caravan down together???

Hmm, here comes a long-winded answer!:p

My car's prepped for STX, which is a street tire class. So it's either Azenis or BFG KD's as my primary autox tires. I'm doing approx. 25 events this summer, only 5 of which are MAC events, so I'm putting most of my car prep time & money into the 20 SCCA events.

If I can find some spare cash, I might eventually pick up some r-compounds for MAC and AARRF events. I get absolutely killed on PAX at MAC events, since I'm forced to run in ESP (.826 vs .798 for STX). But since I'm just a rookie, I figure I'll learn more on street tires for now.

As for babying the Azenis, I did the math, and determined I probably couldn't make it through the summer with them, unless I had some other tires to use for longer trips to places like Peru & Topeka. Plus, the Azenis are pretty noisy & harsh for long trips. Swapping wheels also saves me the worry of ruining a tire on the way to an event.

I think Steve has another pretty legitimate point for swapping the Azenis' on an out of town trip. While pure road mileage may not be much of a factor compared to wear on the autox course, when you're going to compete, its nice to have your good equipment ready to go when you start the day at the event. Putting your competition tires through 200 to 300 miles of highway hazards just before the event has the potential for ruining your day. Not saying it's likely - just that sometimes it makes it worth it for some of us to go to the bother of making the switch. Of course, if you're going to an event that's a little more "local" for you, then the road hazards aren't as much of a factor. e.g., When I go to events at Midway or St. Cloud, I usually drive there and back on the Azenis.

My $.02.

I'm game. What's the exit in Lakeville?

Steve,
Not sure of the exit, it's after 35w & 35E meet, it's on the east side with a HUGE McDonalds sign, sorry I can't be more specific, but I think it'd be pretty hard to miss...

Sounds good to me. I can use the seat time.

See you Sunday!
