I've visited...

http://www.waiautox.org/

They've got a one day event on July 20th at Miller I believe.

Is this a little more like one of "our" local events?
Ever been to one of their events?
Comments/Suggestions?

Thanks Pat!

This event which is run by Wisconsin Autocrossers Inc, a private venture, is pretty much the same as SCCA events since it run for the most part by the same people. The Padbergs own this "company", and the Padbergs are instrumental in the excellent organization and running of SCCA events, including the Cen-Div series event.

Drew can fill you in more since he attended an event last week, but expect a large, fast, wide open course and 5 to 6 runs with anywhere from 160 to 200 cars. Loads-o-fun! Come one, come all!

I haven't autocrossed all over the country, and I hadn't started autocrossing when Canterbury was being used (so I don't know how that compares); but my experience on the course at Miller Park was different from anything I've experienced locally. I had been told the site was big, but when I came around the bend and saw the course for the first time, I told Pat that I must have arrived at autocross heaven. And in my runs, I finally learned something about being able to put my foot in it and not let up.

Part of the reason I went to Milwaukee was to see how their events were organized and run. They seem to do so many things "right" there that I was amazed. There were around 190 entries, 5 runs, 3 to 5-minute run group changeovers (yes really, 3 to 5 minutes), and no major snafus. Pat introduced me to the Padberg's and most of the other organizers. They clearly know what they're doing in running an event. They seem to leave very little to chance.

Based on my experience at Miller Park, I thought the drive to Milwaukee and the overnight stay were worthwhile. I also note that WAI actually has two events scheduled before CenDiv - June 29 and July 20.

Drew-
I'm thinking about many of the same things regarding a trip to Miller Park. Plus I want to get out of town at least once this year.

Anyone else interested in a trip to Milwaukee for the weekend of the 20th? I'm starving for a "real autocross" at a quality location...

I'd expect to travel Saturday afternoon the 19th for the Sunday event, coming home after the event Sunday afternoon/evening. No problems for the Mon-Fri 8-5 workers. Hotel stay on Saturday night, hopefully availability that weekend won't be a problem.

No loyalty to the July 20th MAC event? I, for one, will be at Midway!

FYI - I am going to a Chicago Region event on Saturday July 19th at the Neon plant in Belvidere, IL. I'm driving over Friday night, and staying in Rockford, 15 minutes from the event. If anyone wants to share the room, let me know.

Dave,

My schedule when I went to Milwaukee was exactly the same as what you're thinking of, and it worked fine for me. Left Saturday afternoon. Used Motel 6 in Brookfield (clean, reasonable cost), which is an easy 10 - 15 minute drive from the site. Had supper with Pat and others at Friday's inside Miller Park. Course was set up Saturday evening (I'm not sure if this is always the case), so we walked the course several times. Sunday morning breakfast at a diner two blocks from the motel. Spent the day at the site. A youth group grilled burgers and sold them on site; or there's a MacDonalds within a mile. Left about 5:30. Stopped to eat on the way. Home by 11:30. All in all, it went really smooth.

Plenty of reasonable hotels in the Bluemound Ave area, near Waukeshau. Only 10 minutes from Miller Park. Get a list of people who are going, and rooms can be shared. It would be fun to see a bunch of you there!!

Autocrossing in Illinois on Saturday the 19th, and back at Midway on Sunday the 20th? You're getting to be pretty hardcore, Steve. :D

I really don't want to miss the MAC event. But I also want to go to Milwaukee again. There are events there both June 29 and July 20 (prior to CenDiv); so I'm trying to figure out my schedule. BTW, I want to go to Waterloo again, too, and run on that concrete lot! DMVR has events there June 29 and July 6. Too many choices per weekend. :)

Yep, I'm going hardcore this summer! I'm hoping to make at least 20 events.:D

I'll be at the July 6th DMVR event. Unfortunately, I'll be visiting family in Florida on the 29th. (yes, I did check, and there are NO autocross events scheduled within 3 hours while I'm in Florida!:p )

While you guys are travelling, check our pre-registration site for events within 400 miles. There are several at the MGA Research Center in Burlington Wisconsin. This is between Lake Geneva and Kenosha.

Tim Engel, Jeremy Engel, Terry Pitts and I were there last fall for the Lotus Owners Gathering and were very impressed with the site. Bring lunch, it's pretty-much in the middle of nowhere.
