IIRC, M1 last year was supposed to be nice this far in advance too, but it turned out to be 35 w/snow flurries :x

sunny and dry won't help if the lot is flooded...

A couple days ago they were predicting the Minnesota river to crest above flood stage this week. Didn't Valleyfair flood one year? I'm not sure what the forecast/timeline is now but it might be worth looking into.

It's dry at the moment. However, we're designing around the low point in the lot anyway - so the water could rise quite a bit without affecting the event.

Well, since nearly all of the top trophies in our autocross carreers have involved some sort of rain situation, I think Katie and I have earned a "pass" or two. So there! :p

For KC this past weekend the forcast the Monday before called for sun. Both days had a huge weather system over us (better on Sunday though) but didn't rain during the actual event. It was raining pretty much all Friday, Saturday morning and evening, Sunday morning and evening. Just not during the event! Can you say changing conditions? Every run was different heat 1 both days. Trying to find the right combo of settings was a true multi-variable experiment!
The drive back involved lots of rain and wind.

I'm predicting rain.

Weather channel is showing nice on Sat with highs around 63, Sunday scattered showers and highs in mid 60's. A rain suit might come in handy -stuff one in your tote.

Do cones float? :D

This could add legitimacy to the excuse "the cone moved"

This past weekend, I saw a number of pointed cones get blown out of place because of the strong winds.

Bah! That just means your car was a little better off. The rain this weekend seemed to have made my car way more competitive than it is. I really shouldn't have been so close to Alex and Steve running on Falkens.

You should have showed and been the 3rd and 4th in my car :D

That was nothing - I remember a Test 'n Tune event at Saylorville a couple years ago, where the wind was so strong we had to stack 2-3 cones together, just to keep them from blowing over. That was one miserable event. :(

I could see that with how much wind comes off the water. It was bad even a month ago. The sun was shining, but is was shivering cold.

Well, since we're playing one-upmanship... :D

The '04 Atlanta ProSolo had cones double-stacked, and a number of cone penalties were assessed because the splash from the cars was washing them over from several feet away. It was cold as hell all weekend, I had to swap out a supercharger in the rain. I think I ended up setting both the slowest time and the fastest time in class by a wide margin on both sides...

And Katie's grandfather passed away, so I had to drop her at the Atlanta airport before we even arrived at the event :( .

(no joke...THAT was a f'in bizzare weekend)

I remember watching entire elements shift 5' downwind mid-run.

WELL
my turn!
at the Nationals 91(when it was in Salina still)
a huge storm blew thru the night before the 1st race day
We drove our cars up a loading dock ramp(behind a big building with a big overhang)across the street from our hotel to protect them.
We went to the track the next morning for 1st heat and ALL the cones were gone!
They had blown across the airport and were against a fence
so all the competitors re-set up both courses
it only took about 15 minutes.

Was that the event where the Shelby Cobra got damaged?

Maybe that was it, but I once heard about a year at Nationals where someone had used a quite large (5 gallon? larger?) container filled with water to hold down their tent. But the wind was so strong, it still picked up the tent/container and threw it at a nearby enclosed trailer. It went through the wall of the trailer and took out a *real* Shelby Cobra inside. :(

I was there that year. I was camping in my Bus at Solo City. Big ass storm. Scotty White left his canopy up and the wind launched the 5 gal weight bucket into the air. Came down through the roof of the trailer onto the Cobra, which was in fact real.

Runs? Places? At Nationals?!?

...hmmm...

Wait a minute. So...are you suggesting that *that's* what the event was supposed to be about? I always wondered what the real purpose was...

It's disturbing to see that photo and the word "Regimental" in the same post. I don't want to know if he was Regimental, and I don't even like think about it.
