I'm always interested in moving numbers confusion away from event day. My latest scheme seemed foolproof. Unfortunately, I'm the fool that made that determination.

When you register online for MOWOGs, don't enter a car number if you do not have a permanent number.

If you are using another person's number with permission (works well when sharing a car), be sure to enter this in the "Message to Registrar" box. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to that information when I scanned the entries for duplicate numbers, so at least one of the postings I made was in error. Oops. I'm the fool that didn't think about that.

Of course, there are some that I know to be wrong, especially when two people have signed up for the same event using the same number.

When I hear about the resolution of a numbers problem, the entire thread will be completely removed from the forum system.

Meanwhile, I urge everyone who registered without a number to get a permanent number and lessen the hassle for all of us on event day. I'm not going to list them here; I've caused enough disturbance for one day.

I'll second that request. We can't import registrations without a valid number into the timing system - which means everyone without a permanent number will be an annoyance to Josh and the rest of the timing geeks. (....and these are not the people you want to annoy.  )

p.s. It's not like the $1 fee is a huge imposition. ;)

Numbers are very important. And reserving one is only a dollar. So do it!!

Chris

P.S. And please make sure your number is clearly visible on your car!

I second Chris's comments - as someone who spends a lot of each day in the timing trailer, it is a HUGE help, both to us in the trailer & your fellow competitors working on the course, when your numbers are large & easy to see (hint: contrasting colors work well... look at Chris's & my numbers in our avatars)

Getting magnetic numbers is easy - I think Phil Etheir still sells them, or you can buy your own magnetic sheets (art supply stores, like Dick Blicks usually have the material), print-out large numbers using Word (think big: 800pt. Arial Bold, w/ zero top & bottom margins just fits on a page), trace them on to the sheet, & cut them out yourself.

The first few years I autocrossed I used shoe-polish, tape, etc... for my numbers. Once I made my own magnetic #s, let me tell you, I WISHED I had made them sooner - they make set-up and clean-up so much easier! AND, they're easier to see!

So, buy yourself a number (it's ONLY a buck for the whole year - just skip a soda at a single lunch and you've paid for it!) and make yourself some good, easy-to-see numbers!
