The 2006 Metropolitan Council of Sports Car Clubs Autocross Rules are now available online at: http://www.met-council.org/rules.html.
All proposed changes to the rules passed. Key changes drivers should be aware of:
1. Snell 2000 or newer helmets will be required for the 2006 season. Time to replace those old M or SA 95 helmets!
2. STS2 and STU classes will be offered at events this year. Time to buy those coilovers for your Miata, CRX, STi, Evo, M3, etc. 8)
3. Anyone driving multiple cars at events will be placed in Exhibition (x) class. Please try to remember this when registering online for events.

I'm kind of confused. Page 159 of SCCA rule book has a list of "Exaple of Excluded Veicles", top of list E46 M3. Excluded from what? All ST classes? Is the max. width of a wheel in any ST class 7.5"?
I haven't done a great deal of reading the rulebook, but it seems that alot of the wording and rules are open-ended.
I know that alot of you will probably look at this and laugh, but I'm still new to this, so it's ok for me to ask dumb questions! :p

Well... first off you have to start with the supplimental rules for the ST Classes:
http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/streettouringsupplementalclasses.pdf
but, unfortunately for you, it looks like the e39 and e46 M3 is just outright banned from ST*.
Funny, their the only cars that are...

I have a question... I own a helmet which I know for a fact is Snell 2000 / DOT approved. I bought it in 2002 (and the same helmet is still for sale online). But if you look on the helmet, it says "DOT" but nowhere else does it say specifically that it is Snell 2000 (unless I'm blind).
Do you have a list of approved helmets, or something?
All true Snell helmets have a tag inside. Take a look under the lining it should have one somewhere. The snell 2000 tag is light tan in color that can be very hard to see in sunlight so look closely.

The official list of certified helmets for each standard and a sample of what each sticker looks like. Note: If your helmet doesn't have one of the right stickers on the inside under the lining, it won't pass tech.

what was the rule on this last year? i spotted people driving multiple cars on more than one occasion and it always struck me as sort of odd since every event had a waiting list.

There wasn't really a rule on it last year. ...it was just discouraged.

Last year was a learning experience, it was the first time we ever had events fill up on line completely before the events, we had people sign up for the season early and not come (lots of no shows) and we maintained waiting lists after the events filled up. Once we started having the issue of full events we asked people to hold off on double drives even if they were already signed up for them. We still allowed double drives at the later events last year if there was room after all who were there had signed up and if there was room... I haven't been at the meetings lately but I know these issues were and are being addressed and that this years registration will be different. For one thing all on line registration opens 30 days prior to the event and is pre-pay only.

As someone that has done the multiple driving thang in the past I think it should still be an option but "Not til everyone goes thru the Buffet line once". If there is room it's more money for the club, another work position (dual drive = two work sessions) and additional seat time for the driver. That said it's a busy day and sometimes you don't do as well when driving two different cars, especially if different layouts...

Hmm. Thanks for the link, sure enough when I click on M2000 It shows my brand and model helmet... I guess I will have to look again. I never had any problems passing tech, even at SCCA national tour events. So it must be there somewhere...

In the case of some make/models, the helmet may have originally been certified under SNELL 1995. When SNELL 2000 certification became available the manufacturer may have re-certified the helmet under SNELL 2000. But if you bought that make and model before the re-certification it will have a SNELL 1995 sticker and will NOT be recognized as SNELL 2000 certified.
Fair? Probably not.

AHA!
For me it was impossible to see without sunlight. It's way along the edge and very tough to see. Thanks!

Oh yeah, good point...my helmet has the M2000 certification sticker on it. But I know for a fact that same helmet is still sold with M2005 certification. Oh well, I guess I can still use it for a few more years anyway!

Ok i was thinking of drive my friends car for an event but since it is a huge car compared to the mini i was going to run in SI with that car, but under that new rule the i have to run an exhibition class. What kind of cars are going to be able to run and so on, or is it just a class for people trying to get seat time.

I don't really understand what you're asking. The exact same cars may be run in SI or Exhibition - the only difference is that Exhibition doesn't award trophies.
Big cars are fine. Vans/SUV's or other vehicles with a very high center of gravity are not OK.

I really don't understand your post.
Are you saying that you want to drive two cars at the same event?
If you want to personally drive two cars at the same event, you must enter BOTH cars in the X class.
Or did you have a different question?
