Ok, well, Dad says I can't drive my MR2 anymore unless I get some shocks on order, just too dangerous without any dampening. He's right.
As much as I want to, I just can't swing the Konis right now, so I started looking elsewhere. Tokico Illuminas are generally considered second best, with Tokico HPs third. I looked on TireRack.com, but I don't see anything other than the Konis or the KYB GR-2 (which is kinda frowned upon for anything other than daily driving).
So, does this mean that I can't order through Dwight? Or should I just throw on some CarQuest cheapos and hold out for the Konis later?
What Would You Do?

You can get the HP's for under $200 on ebay. That's probably no more than it'd cost you for the carquest shocks.

Well
Konis are $625 shipped (from Dwight)
Illuminas are $488 shipped (shox.com)
HPs are $220 shipped (ebay.com)
KYBs are $165 shipped (shox.com)
While I could buy the Konis right now, I really don't think that's a financially responsible move. Especially since I'm still waiting for my GI bill to kick in and my tuition went on my Discover card today :(

Did you not buy the car for about as much as the Koni's cost?

You can now by shocks directly from Koni America...
Email Lee Grimes at Lee.Grimes@itt.com.
Lee was about 15 bucks cheaper per shock, maybe that not enough…

I did pay only $600 for the car, does that make it stupid/irrational to put Konis on it?
I'll E-mail Lee Grimes to see how much it would cost direct from Koni.

No, it means you made a good buy on a car that needed shocks:)
And interesting conversation at the events this year:
"Yeah, the shocks cost more than the car"
Get the best ones for the car and buy once otherwise you'll spend more in the long run or always wonder what it'd be like with better shocks (unless you want something to blame your slow runs on)

PS, I know where a Gen 1 MR2 is stored for the winter (St Paul), want to do some covert action and get free used shocks?:p

Is that how you came out with Spax? BTW, I saw an ad for those the other day in my Demon Tweaks catalog, which ones do you have?
That has kinda been my rational for leaning towards the Konis anyways? Longer lasting, better performing, more likely to save my heinie if I hit a bump mid corner, and being adj rebound only I can make the nose stay down through the corner longer (as opposed to the Illuminas which adjust bound and rebound). GRM said that Konis take some of the "edge" off of the first gen MR2s without diminishing the fun to drive-ness. Which is probably a good thing, Anybody here disagree?

My cost from the Tire Rack,
KYG GR2 set $140.00 W/freight $150.43 [Incredible price]
DCM handling charge $5, MN sales tax $9.10
Total. $167.53
Is it worth it?
You be the judge.

It depends on if you plan on keeping it for more then 2-3 years. I'm guessing you won't get any of your money back for your struts when you sell it.

I've never gotten rid of a car before I had to, see:
'92 Sundance (sold to pay for Jetta)
'86 Jetta (sold to Dad when I moved to Japan)
'88 Daihatsu (given away so I could buy WRX)
'94 WRX (sold at a big loss so I could move back to MN) (I miss this car)
'87 Scirocco 16v (not sold yet, just parts sold)
'87 MR2 (gonna have to be something pretty sweet that comes along to take the place of this)
The thing that sucks about the Jetta is that he sold it to a friend of mine, which is cool 'cause I get visitation rights, but in the last week, it got rearended by a Suburban, and then got broken into to steal a $20 cd deck and half a set of metric wrenches (allied brand).

Mine are worn out by my standards. They're by no means at all anywhere in the ball park of yours. I could sell you mine for $100 :D
Or just steal them off the new MR2 ;) I need as much suspension travel as possible :)
