Hi all, not a regular here, but I have a question about MN gas. The highest octane I've been able to find in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area lately has been 93 octane, though I've heard of 96 octane at some undisclosed location. Do you all use anything higher for track days, short of racing fuel? What does MN state law say on this issue? TIA for any thoughts!

I don't know about the Twin Cities, but the Conoco stations in Rochester have 100 octane leaded for "off-road and classic car use only". I haven't seen anything higher that 93 unleaded.

Go here:

and scroll down to "Gas Stations".
Its a short list of high-octane stations.
The Holiday on 35 (south of twin cities) on the turnoff you take to go ice racing with the quattro club has 100/110 octane.

My Swift uses 100 actane minimum, I usually run 110 because that's what I can get easily. Under 4 bucks a gallon too! That's a race prepped engine.
For a stock vehicle, think about what your getting for your money. Most all cars computers are optimized for the recommended octane rating. The computer senses low actanes (detonation) and will do lots of power-robbing stuff to save your motor as a result, but it will *never* increase performance when putting higher octane in. Before every big autocross, I used to disconnect the battery in my Neon for a least a half hour before running it. (Per the Chrysler service manual) This would reset the computer to all default values and would wipe out any timing retardation as a result of any bad fuel I might have gotten. This might be all you need to do.

As far as octane rating, Texaco on 169 and 42'nd. HAD 100 octane unleaded but it may be a "racing season only" thing so they may not have it for another month or 2. I THINK it was $3.49/gal. But I agree that for an OEM motor, I cant see needing more than 93. Texaco also has 110 leaded but at $3.69 a gallon (last year...!), I'm glad I don't use over 2 gallons for my weekend fun!!! I let everyone behind me in line get a whiff of that great smell for FREE!

Wrong answer everyone,
According to their Billboard ads Chino Latino has the best gas--- or at least helps YOU have the best gas...
I've never eaten there cause their ad campaign turns me off, can anyone out there speak from experience???
Paul
PS I apologize for this, I think its been way too long since I've driven around those orange cones...

Paul,
You gave got to visit the BATHROOM during your visit to Chino Latino. I can't tell you why right now, but you will find out once you get there. I can guarantee that you will want to keep going back to the bathroom after the first time.
P.S. Whatever you do, do NOT pass gas LOUDLY in the Chino Latino bathroom. :D

Texaco in the Dayton Industrial Park on CR 81 near Rogers has 100 (maybe 105?). Its pay at the pump only. The owner has a nice little rear engine dragster and likes to have the good stuff on hand:)
PS The regular gas prices are usaully 2-4 cents lower than anyone else around too!
