From what I've heard, I think I'll be in street mod, but we'll see.

1990 Honda CRX HF

Mods:

b16a SiR engine and transmission with LSD (Japanese Motor)
PW0 ECU
Short ram air intake
2.25" Custom exhuast with Dynomax muffler
high flow cat
1990 Integra stock front brakes
KYB AGX Shocks with Ground Control Coilovers, lowered ~1"
14" VW Jetta rims with Falken Azenis

Full interior, completely stock (with exception of walnut shift knob).

SM2 (Street Mod for 2-seaters) is my guess.

Rex is right on the Money assuming you have an interior you will be in SM2, I highly suggest getting some serious tire to put down the power.I have a B16 powered 91 hatch and 13 x 8's feel pretty good on it. Lots of rubber. But if your just starting out Street tires might be best to learn on. I know I'm liable to go back to street tires and do some learning of my own.

Jason

Edit: did see the full interior comments so he'll be battling Steve's Miata in SM2, as this thing wouldn't stay in the Special Interest very long.

hmm...the whole reason I bought the Azenis RT-615's was that I heard they were a good AutoX tire. Now if you're talking about a $1000 set of racing slicks, theres no way I'll be able to afford those anyway. From what I hear, the Azenis are one of the best DD / weekend autoX tires for my platform (and they're cheap!).

Just like JDLHonda said, I also want to learn to drive correctly before I put R-compounds on my car. I'm not really looking to be competitive yet, I need to #1 learn how to drive, and #2 have some fun!

Well you could get Kuhmo V710's, which are one of the better R-compound tires available for probably less than you paid for the Azenis. But then you wouldn't be able to daily drive on them, so you would still be spending more in the long run.

And as others have mentioned, street tires would be better to learn on, so sticking with the Azenis would be good for now (what i'll be using next year, after a year on R's). But to be at all competitive in that class, you'd need to have some wide R's on there.

The RT-615 is a great autocross tire, for the street tire classes. But in SM2 you'll be competing against people on R-compound tires like the Kumho V710. You'll have a lot of fun on the Azenis, and you may well beat some competitors who are on R-compounds. Conversely, even if you had R-compounds, there are car/driver combinations in that class that you will not beat. Have fun this year and improve on your driving. At the end of the season you can decide what "improvements" to make for the following year.

P.S. Frankenhondas are cool.

Well..the CRX is my DD, although since I live in the city and I'm only a mile from Campus (I got to UMN) it doesn't get driven much (especially now in the winter, azenis + snow = suicide).

The Kuhmo's are quite a bit more expensive than the RT-615 actually. I payed $400 for all four tires mounted, balanced, and had a 4-wheel alignment done. It should have been $500, but they broke my shifter and so they discounted me the price of an OEM shifter ($95). hehe, I'm still using the broken shifter with a home made knob! Anyway, the V710's will run me $145 a tire with heat cycling + getting them mounted etc. Then i'd also need a new set of wheels, so theres another $450.

Like you said, maybe next year (2007 I mean), but my budget can't support another grand to be put into the car. Anyway, the Azenis are great in the rain (amazing eh?) and so if there's any rainy events I can tear it up.

Going to STS2?

If it passes, yes!!

Well you got a pretty good deal on the 615's. Where did you get them? I'm looking into a set as i'm running the 215's now and when they go, i'll be looking to replace them and would like to fine them for as cheap as possible!
