Didn't know if anyone had already brought it up but it appears Milwaukee has taken the place of the Toledo National Tour event in July. They have Summerfest going on so they said hotels will book up early so let's plan ahead.I am definetaly going to try to make it! Anyone else?

I'd like to try to make it. I really want to do a nationals event this coming year, even though i won't be anywhere near competitive, just to experience it and have fun. Having one even closer now just makes it that much easier!

Andy,

I did a Mid-Div in Milwaukee a couple years ago in my Rx-7, that was my first 2 day event. I finished DFL in ES and was in the bottom third in PAX. I would encourage as many of you as I can to go to this event. Great experience…….

BTW, I smiled all the way home…

a few n00b questions - Do all classes run both days, or are the classes split up between the two days? How many runs can you expect? I assume you need to be an SCCA member?

All classes run both days.
3 runs per day - different course each day.
You must be an SCCA member to compete at Divisional or National events.

-Steve

p.s. They typically set up a practice course on Friday afternoon, with runs costing $2 or so each. I would count on taking Friday off work, so you can drive to Milwaukee, find a paddock space, register, do some practice runs, and socialize.

...Thinking about which car you're going to bum a ride in!:p

Oh yeah.....I need a car! Damn. I'll narrow it down to anything between HS and AM.

I was thinking a SS Elise might be fun next year. Or perhaps a 1st gen Solstice in CS...just because everyone's watching. (I say 1st gen because I predict that GM will be making a bunch of changes to the car early in it's life, resulting in lots of trade in's to keep up with the new variants. Kinda like having to trade up to the 05 Mini because of the introduction of LSD.) Anyone want to make a deal? :)

Neal, while I *was* retired, I never said I wasn't going to Nationals. (O.K., I went to Peru in a moment of weakness, but I didn't mean to. Honest.) I will never willingly miss Nats...even if I have to pedal a tricycle. I might still be retired next year too...I haven't decided. Owning a competitive car would help that decision along. Oh well...it's a long winter.

Darryl

...even if I have to pedal a tricycle.

And you’d still trophy. If you do the tricycle thing don’t enter it in CS…

The Cendiv there a couple of years ago was excellent. This event is a must. If the idea of 3 runs turns you off......pass on this. If you want to run against the best, do it. No multiple entries, no mutiple runs. One car, one driver (maybe a second driver). Only 3 runs a day. Period. No taking it easy on the first run to get a "feel for the course". Must blister your opener. If your car prep and mental prep is not "there", don't expect too much. Hey, if only a few show up in your class, you can win tires.

Now I just need to take my own advice.

A win or two next year would be NICE. My tire budget is going to suck next year - those blasted 285/30-18's are hideously expensive.:x

Nope, I can still spin the tires at will with the 245/45-16's. :p

Besides, I can't afford to buy new Hoosiers every 30 runs, and Kumho doesn't have any 16" V710's in a reasonable diameter. So the plan for '06 is some lightweight CCW wheels & V710's.

18 x 9.5 front with 245/35-18
18 x 10.5 rear with 285/30-18

That's the best description of competing at the national/divisional level that I've read yet. All you forgot was "addictive".

So you guys normally get home Sunday night then or hang out in Milw. and come back Monday? Not sure what Traffic would be like considering Tuesday is the 4th and all. Seriously thinking about going to pick up my DFL non-trophy in SM, :D .

It so close and depending on whether work is totally going to screw us out of actually picking when we use our vacation days. There actually thinking they are going to shut the plant down for a week and force us to use our vacation days and many won't have any. Anyways back on track. Thinking of going because maybe won't have any vacation togo to Nats if I wanted to anyways, But, I can burn it before the shutdown togo to NT event in Milw. and it has the other better half's blessing.

I would drive back. You should be home before 10pm on Sunday night.
I have to sit down and look at some schedules. I'm planning on burning up 4-6 weeks of vacation this summer.

We usually drive out Friday afternoon, leave 11ish. Arrive about 4 or 5. Meet at the hotel the head over to Miller Park. Do a couple course walks. They usually do tech on Friday night, for the national event I’m sure they will. Head over to the stadium and eat dinner. Bench race for a couple hours then get some sleep.

Sunday, we usually finish by 4:00 and hit the road by 5:00. This year might be different with the Holiday, a few might stay… I live out west in Victoria so it a good 5 hour drive for me…I usually get home between 9:30 and 10:00…

Save some vacation or take some un-paid time and go to National’s…It’s the best event you’ll ever attend…

Well 8 days total, two are already used due to x-mas stuff, so 6 left figure at least one for Friday, and leaves me 5. Kids gonna want a long weekend vacation sometime, leaves 3, HMM just doable if I take a few points at work. Un-paid time = points where I work and at 10 your fired, lucky for me and my perfect attendance last year I-m at -2 now and could be at -4. Hmm thinking out loud here hey I can make it to the big dance.

I need an Aztek style tent for the Civic, haha.

I could one of the few SM cars that actually drive to Milw. Steve drove the Miata further than that last year didn't he.

I drove it down to that horrible little lot in Iowa last year so I should be ok.

For a National Tour event, it's a good idea to arrive around lunch time on Friday. That way, you have time to find a decent paddock spot, get your car teched, register, and get some runs on the practice course. 8)

Well I'm most definitely IN :D , work put up a posting that did away with the whole forced vacation deal. Now I gotta work some OT to finish up some mods and reliability upgrades, I've been wanting for the little Civic, and decide on some new tires.

Maybe I can convince one of my family members in to letting me use a truck and trailer.

Anyone planning to attend the National Tour Event July 1-2 in Milwaukee should consider making hotel reservations very soon. Milwaukee has a big festival running the same weekend, and hotels will fill up quickly.

I already booked a room at the Country Inn & Suites in Brookfield, which has become the hotel of choice for those of us who regularly attend Milwaukee SCCA events. There are two attached restaurants, free breakfast, and it's close to Miller Park. The rates aren't cheap, but very few hotels in the area are less than $100/night. A 1 bedroom Suite (3 beds) is $179/night - which isn't so bad split 3 ways. I'd recommend at least 2-3 other people book rooms ASAP, to ensure we have space for all the MAC members who want a room.

Maybe. However, if you're planning to run STS2 this year, I'd recommend running that in Milwaukee - as several of the top STS2 drivers will undoubtedly be there.

If anyone wants a co-driver (or two), that sounds like it might be kinda fun. The Scirocco just don't work for ProSolo...unless it rains.

What Neal said. I'd be interested in co-driving an AWD AS or STX car, if someone wants to try out a ProSolo. I can provide a VERY similar tow vehicle. ;)

You won't get laughed at, but you'll be giving up 2+ seconds to the cars with DOT r-compound tires. Not sure I'd recommend doing a National Tour event on street tires (unless you're in a Street Tire class, of course). Instead, I'd suggest you hit one or more of the regional two-day events in Milwaukee. You'll get more runs (6 per day) and have a class to run in, as Milwaukee runs a very popular street tire index class, very similar to the one at MAC events.

I'll be in on the tour as man days as I can get off. Sadly I have manditory Saturdays at the shop, so I will be fighting to get a weekend off.

Hopefully I can find a place to bunk for Milwaukee.

Speaking of which... I'm going to be at every regular Milwaukee event I can drive to this season. If anyone wants to room up, I'm in!
