Heres a reason to be thankful for frigid temps... The Minnesota Quattro Club is hosting their ICE TRIALS this sunday!
Its fun and you learn A LOT about driving on ICE!! LOTS OF SEAT TIME..just DRESS WARM!! I'm bringing my camera to capture the smiles on your faces

I did this 2 years ago (so did autocrossers, Ben Rogowski and Alex Plaster) so feel free to ask any questions and we'll field them the best we can..
FYI: Ive got a set of 13" cleated ICE RACING tires off a Dodge Colt 4x114 if anyone wants to mae me an offer and have EVEN MORE FUN. FYI: You don't need cleated tires to participate. They have tire classes and also 2WD & 4WD

hey does anybody know if this event is wheel to wheel or more like an autocross? or AAARRRRFFFF? I don't have a spare car, and Salah's WRX is already ugly enough. :p

Its a TRIALS event. Just YOU driving a road course as fast as possible against time. No wheel to wheel. Its similar to an AARRF event in that its a road course, but you only do one lap.
I recall the course length we ran a couple years ago was just over a minute.
Instead of pylons, they filled black garbage bags and placed them on the inside of each turn so theyre easy to spot.
The practice session from 8am - noon is worth the $30 fee alone.
Since the course is long, it allows several cars on it at one time. So drive time comes on much faster than our events
They use stop watchs for timing.
Bring some paper, tape and a marker to make numbers for your windows on each side. Magnets numbers will fall off
There will be a qualified Paramedic and tow vehicle present..
Its a very laid back event.. They seldom get to do these so it won't be nearly as organized as a MAC event. There was just 30 cars that entered when we did it.
Lets just hope they don't have to cancel it for some reason.. They'll check the ice conditions saturday and if theres any weak areas they'll email you cancellation notice.. That is why everyone is aksed to pre register.

>Since the course is long, it allows several cars on it at one time.
Makes sense.
>So drive time comes on much faster than our events
This does not make sense. The only reliable metric of how fast cars can be processed is the time interval between launches. Course length only affects how many cars can occupy the course at once.
If there is no passing allowed, and cars are to avoid getting close to one another, I don't see how they could operate with a launch interval much shorter than the 20 seconds we use for pavement autocrosses. Longer courses make it more likely that cars will catch each other, so the longer course would tend to have the effect of lengthening, not shortening, the launch interval.
The advantage of a longer course is that you get more total drive time. Not that you get more runs or that your next run comes around any faster. I suppose if you spent enough time on each run, the argument could be made that the interval from the end of one of your runs to the beginning of the next would be shorter. :-)
In any case, if there is no-passing, and if "your drive time comes on faster", the reason is likely to be a smaller number of cars, not the length of the course.
Icekhanas which I attended years ago usually allowed controlled passing during practice. I do not know if this is the case here.

Why am I having flash backs to my 7th grade English class this morning?!
Yes, a smaller amount of cars equals less time waiting for your "single" runs.
Excuse my improper description to those of you who may have been confused by it.. You too Mr Either. It was a late night. I just got home from an Italian Discoteque and wasn't in a normal frame of mind....heh
I hope you all enjoy the game today while Salah, Chuck and myself promise to enjoy "our drive time coming on faster" lol
