Does anybody know of a good machine shop. I need some assistance with my engine I am about to rebuild.

I would recommend finding a Honda specific/knowlegable machine shop.
Otherwise Import Engine in MPLS.
Performance Concepts in Forest Lake
Richard Burns in Minnetonka.
Trappers Machine in Bethel.

I had my block work done at HeadWerks in Bloomington. They are very experienced, clean, knowledgable and expensive. The equipment they have is very good and they know how to use them. They also do not specialize in Hondas (they do a lot of domestic race engine prep), so I had to tell them exactly what I wanted done.

However, the block came back PERFECT. I would go back to them for my next project.

Here is what I had them do:

Bore and Hone Cylinders to Honda specs
Deck Block (be careful here...watch your compression ratio and piston/head clearances)
Balance pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft
Micropolish Crank (they sent it out to another company for this)
Balance Flywheel

Thanks! How much would say a line hone, bore .050 over and acid bath/hot tank be? I purchased some pr3 pistons (99-00 civic si and others.) .050 overssized from nippon racing. I hope these will last a season. I may just go with a bore and some block inserts and pray for the best. My engine doesn't seem to be making a lower end noise. Yet I could be wrong. 10.8:1 compression, hehehe. There goes the steaks I've been grillin' up after the races.

Steve at Headwerks does great work and it's by far the cleanest machune shop I've ever seen. Like Tim says it's expensive but you get what you pay for.

I would say in the $300 to $500 range at Headwerks for the machine work only. A few hundred more if you have them assemble the bottom end.

Unless you are going to run boost or 12:1+ compression ratios, I wouldn't worry about a block guard (factory CTR's don't have them). If you do want to put one in, be sure you talk it over at length with Headwerks on the exact steps you want to take. Research it on Honda-Tech first and have your game plan ready. You can screw up block guards (and the cylinder work) in a hurry if they are not done properly.

While you have the block bare, you might as well replace the water pump, oil pump, timing belt and the bearings.

A good rebuild should cost you about $1500 - $2000 assuming you do most of the labor and assembly. If you are dumping in performance parts, $3000 - 5000 is the range - but you could buy a B16B CTR motor for that...

OK, I called headwerks today. They told me there real picky about block prep, which is good. The bad news is they told me around $750 for a line hone, cylinder bore and hone, hot tank and inspection. I really don't want to build a motor that cost me roughly 4 times what my car is worth. Ya know, the poor college thing. I am probably gonna make someone mad by saying this, I am going to just get my holes bored out at Parts Plus. I have sent many heads there to get cleaned up and repaired and I yet to be dissapointed. I assured the man at Headwerks that once I graduate college I will bring my motor there so I can make 5,000,000 horsepower :o (O.K. may not that much but close)

PS I told the guy that Tim Mahlzan referred me to them. So maybe you'll get a discount next time :)

Anyone else see this in the examples of their work?

I think I'll have them work on my Honda 2ZZ-GE.
