View Full Version : HELP! I need a STS legal co drive for MOWOG4

My car just lost the front passenger side CV joint. It exploded grease all over the wheel well. It's dead. not pretty. On the plus side, i figured out what that knock was when turning lock to lock and got a new STi strut in there to replace the leaky one. Now i just need to spend a crapload of money replacing it. yay.

the negative: I have no car for the autocross this sunday at Midway. I am currently in #1 season points in STS and I would love to keep up with trying for a top sopt at year end. Of course I will co drive anything with 4 wheels (awd of course if my preferred mode) but I'd really like something i can enter into STS to keep my points for this season. I am a very careful driver in other people's cars, I have a spotless driver record, and am a nice guy. I promise that i wont be fast in your car, i just want it for the experience/season points/fun of it.

can anyone help me? I'm desperate and oh so sad.

I can offer co drives in my car at any other event this year. It is a full prep STS car, and one of about 20 american cars equipped with the highly rare STi Ver 7 Spec C RA suspension (well.. minus the lateral links/trailing arms...) and is a blast to drive. Feels like a Spec C, minus 80 HP. Also a case of beer! (must be 21 or over, will not bring to event obviously)

I throw myself upon your mercy, autocross gods.

Free Beer!

LOL.

Sweet deal...unfortunately the Civic is fully booked for M4.

I do see a natural double-drive candidate in Larry B in his 2.5 RS. ;)

Worst comes to worst, I can run my street tires at Midway and you can drive it. Otherwise, my race tires put me in STX. Last resort of course (if you don't mind an Automatic V6 Camry). You'd probably have better luck with the one bad CV LOL! I was hoping to run these new tires for the first time, but if it will help you out I can wait a week :)

If you want to drop by the Repair shop I work at in Downtown St. Paul, They should have a reasonable price. The shops called Weinhagen Tire and Auto Service Center. Were at 206 SO. Wabasha st. The work could most likely be done by saturday if you can get in early (Saturday is first come first serve. So Dropping it on Friday would be best).

I missed all the fun here in Mpls (I HAD to go drive Steve G's car in Milwaukee....). So Zak.....who came out ahead?

not me.

Larry won. by a large margin. He was really fast in that thing. The little differences in the cars was really meaningless. I now know a few more secrets of speed in these RS's though. There are tiny little setup differences we have that I'm making some changes to accomodate for (in other words, that pulley is going on my crank as absolutely soon as possible it erased the hesitation around 1k-3k rpms0. The 16 inch wheels felt really nice on a small course, and of course the 300lb diet the car was on compared to mine didnt hurt either. His rear end motion under braking is controllable, mine is scary, and the GC8's are definitely a tad faster in a straight line.

I must say, harnesses always bug me for a while, then I always remember why it is I need one again...

But i'm so glad I got a chance to just drive. I don't feel comfortable going 9/10ths in someone else's car so I am dreaming of replacing my CV and getting back into my car, but making a few more setup changes from input from today. The rear bar is going back a notch, crank pulley in, tire settings more even (i usually use much lower rear than front) and I'll even throw in a harness once I get back from vacation.

Thansk larry for letting me co drive. It was awesome.
