I have been in SI now for some time. Definately enjoying the events. I do have a quesiton about my cars class if I ever get bumped from SI. I own a 1988 civic hatchback with a 90 Integra RS motor, transmission and brakes on it. Aftermarket springs and struts. I was wondering what class it would be in?? Would it be Street Modified or would I need to bolt in my rear seats that I took out?

Street Mod

Rear seat removal is legal as long as that's all you removed.

I'll have to chat you up sometime running a fairly similiar setup. But I got a 91 HB with a B16 in it.

Check the vBGarage for more info.

Gus,

Street Mod it is. You do need the full interior. Like AlexL said, backseat removal is the only thing you can remove from the interior.

Front seats can be replaced (but not removed).

Take a look at the setups for wheels/tires Jason and I are running. 13's on WIDE rims/tires are the ticket for SM Hondas. They should easily fit over your brakes and should reduce your gearing slightly so you are out of first gear on courses like Midway.

Now you need that VTEC head conversion...

Another good place to look is Redshiftmotorsports (http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com)

Chris Shenefield is setting up an 88 for SM and he's got the car going pretty darn quick already and he hasn't got it all sorted yet. I'm pretty much going in that direction with mine starting this winter except for I'm going to stay with the B16 that I have and hopefully find some more power if not and not down to weight I may have to go Forced Induction in a year or two.

Great! Thanks alot.

I have 14" wheels right now, cause they look nice and there free. Installing 13" wheels is interesting, tires are cheaper, right? I will be running these used azenis I recieved for little cash. Hopefully they will stick. I can't wait for sunday  See you there!

Not really.

Fast tires (Hoosiers) will set you back about $650+ for the set. Wheels are relatively cheap if you go with a Diamond Racing Wheel (steel). You can get others in the 13 x 7.5 to 13 x 9 range, but they are still pricey. Expect to spend a good $1000 for the entire setup.

Check around though as I was able to pick up my Rota RB (Panasport lookalikes) 13 x 8 for 400 shipped and they had the proper backspacing and bolt pattern so no messing with them. Miata's tend to use them asl well.

I check sccaforums from time to time for a good deal.

Some of the 13's are a bit cheaper than some of the other R's and you can buy them in a variety of sizes 215/225/235 etc.

I run the V700 as it was fairly cheap less than 120 a tire and should last all season. Granted not he grippest tire but it works for me in my life / cost equation.

Gus,

How'd you do the brake swap both front and back? You put in the 4040 prop valve for the brakes? Also wondering if you used the steering knuckle and everything else from the Integra when doing the brake swap. I had heard that they will bind that's why everyone uses the EX knuckles to upgrade the brakes. I test fitted the ones from my GSR and did not noticing any binding either full droop for almost fully compressed. But it does move the tie rod a 1/2 in lower but about the same distance from the axle.

On a significantly lowered car i guess I'd almost think this would be ideal. As I would think it would put it in a more like stock position really as the car is lower along with the steering rack, while the steering knuckle would be in the same position regardless of ride height. All measurements being taken from the ground that is.

I outta consult my How to make a car handle book. I don't see the bind but something else maybe affected.

I used the 4040 valve, MC, front spindles, brake lines, ebrake cables, rear hub/trailing arm assembly and I believe the rear trailing stabilizer/rear toe adjuster arm thingy... from a 90 Integra RS 4 door that was donated to me. So far no binding, I think. I was more worried about the axles binding and *SNAP* After an alignment it has taken abuse in 35w rush hour for months now :p

The wheels and tires seem a little pricey. I think for now I may stick with "high performance" tires. Wheels I am going to maybe purchase some Rota's. We'll see.

Hmm I'll never know about the spindle/knuckles as Tim has them now I plan on getting the proper EX ones as I guess they are the same as other EF knuckles except for the bigger brakes.

Learning on the tires you have probaly isn't a bad idea and then upgrade the grip for year 2. I went from 195's to 235's and that was a huge increase in grip can only imagine the difference from a street tire of modest width and grip and then going to a 235 R comp. I'm pretty sure it would feel vastly different.
