What does the event master do? Is it something that can easily be done from like Rochester? Do you just have to call the porta-jon guys and stuff?

I am planning to be at the May 1 Valley Fair event...

The Event Master's ultimate responsibility is to ensure an event is successful. The biggest up-front part of the job is simply ensuring volunteers are in place for the various jobs required to make an event run smoothly. With the current strong crop of MAC volunteers, this is pretty much as simple as posting requests on the forum.

Day-of-event, the EM's primary responsibility is to keep things moving along, and make decisions, if/when questions come up. Some EM's prefer to design/setup the course, which is fine. Other EM's may wish to simply make course designer another volunteer position that needs to be filled.

The job can definitely be done from outside the Twin Cities. Prior to day-of event, the only tasks required can easily be done via email/forum, plus a phone call or two. Day-of-event, you should plan to be at the site by 6:30 - 7:00 AM, and not leave until 5:00 PM or slightly later. Valleyfair events require a bit larger time commitment, as we do course/grid setup the day before the event.

If you want to give EMing a try, just let me know.

You're on. I don't really care which of you does which job - just let me know who wants to be listed as the "official" EM.

Thx!

Steve:

I am not yet sure of my availability to be at the May 22 event.

I do have a coarse designed for the central parking lot
with the background of all parking spaces, drive lanes, etc.
that can be used for this event. It should be easy to set up.

I have been working on a second layout for the July 25 event that I
will be EM at.

If things work out I will be at Mowog 2 and could EM, otherwise you are welcome to the coarse design for someone else to EM.

I will follow later with my availability, But let me know if you want the
coarse design and how to get it to whoever might be the EM.

I know we are only 3 weeks out, so all work positions need to get arranged
soon.

Thanks Jonathan

Jonathan,

You must have been reading my mind. We absolutely must get an EM designated for MOWOG 2 by the end of this week! Since Jonathan's already signed on for MOWOG 6, is there anyone else out there who wants to take on MOWOG 2?

Jonathan, please send me the course design you have completed. If someone steps forward as EM, they may want to design the course. However, it never hurts to be prepared.

I don't mind posting and maintaining the worker signup thread for Mowog 2 until an EM is finalized, if that would be helpful.

Roger,

I may take you up on that. I'll try to come up with a list of the required volunteers in the next day or two (it will be shorter than for Valleyfair).

I can EM for MOWOG 4.

I can take a crack at designing a course if you have some previous Midway courses for me to reference.

Magicsammy-

I have the Midway parking lot in an autocadd drawing file
that lays out every parking stall to scale.
I also have a couple of past designs for Midway.

Let me know how I can get these to you (I could bring prints to the next
members meeting or maybe Mowog 2 if I can make it)

Steve,

I have you down for MOWOG 4.

I'll send you a care package of Midway designs. You & I can take some time to discuss special design considerations for that particular site before/after the next meeting.

Can you handle AutoCAD files? If not, I can send you JPEG's or Visio files.

JPEGs will work best unless there is a freeware product that I can open AutoCAD files with - thanks

View yes, edit no. I'll send you print-quality JPEG's - they're easy to work with.

We have all but one of the EM's & Course Designers lined up for 2005. I still need someone to act as EM for the Evo 2 class. I'll do most of the pre-event organizing, so all you'll mostly be responsible for day-of-event operational details. We should be able to get you a discount coupon for a future Evo class.

Having not chaired an event for several years.
And then doing Mowog II, I was rusty.
In spite of the fact, Steve designed the course.
Great job 'all', in spite of having some problems.
So much has changed. And it's all for the better.
You folk's are awesome!

Damn! Too late to design for MOWOG 7 :(

I guess maybe when I get back from Wyotech.

If anyone wants help with their course design I would be more than happy to help :)
