Has anyone tried out the BFG g-Force Sports? I see they're available in 225/50-15. With the extra width, I'm wondering if they'll make a viable STS tire in spite of their 340 tread wear rating.

Chris,

I've been looking at inexpensive 225/50-15's to use as street tires, and considered these as one of the options. From the information I've seen, they feel good, but the 205 Azenis would undoubtedly kick sand in the face of a 225 g-Force Sport. TireRack did a good TEST (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testResultsModel.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+Sport&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&partnum=25VR5GFSP) on the tire.

FWIW - I decided to get 225/50-15 Yokohama ES-100's for my car. Inexpensive, with a bit better performance than the BFG's. Plus the Yoko's are REALLY wide!

Chris,

I think you would have to go with the 225/50R15 BFG KD's to get a jump on the competition. They have a section width of 9.2 and are at the same level as the Azenis Sports as far as grip. Randy can tell you all about them since he ran them on his 318.

The ES100's are a good performance street tire, but from my experience with them on the MR2 they are not a satisfying autox tire and the Sport's you mentioned would even be worse.

Chris,

I currently have those on my WRX, I took it out to the last MAC event at Valley Fair last season, I was not too please about the performance. But for street its great, its quite, it performs well and the wear is awsome. It does well in the rain as well.
