yeah so I have a new race car, but its about 12 years old and even after all the stuff I have done to it I'm not sure that it will pass tech. Anyone have any good thoughts how how to tell if I can get that bad boy in to race?

Pass tech or be legal for a particular class? Those are two very different issues.

To pass tech, the car simply needs to be in good mechanical shape. If you're unsure how to verify this, a thorough inspection by a competent mechanic should spot any problems.

As for class legality, that can be a bit trickier. Worst case, you could show up at the end of the Novice School classroom session and have us take a look at the car.

I have been replacing worn out parts like crazy on this thing. Trying to get it up to running coniditon in a Stock fashion. Looks like I still have a few months so I will have to keep pounding away at it. I need to figure out what the crap is wit the fuel system. I believe that it is running rich....

I would say the two most common things I've seen old VW's fail tech for are either the battery is loose, or the wheel bearings are loose.

From a guy who has had both issues in his '88 GTI 16V ;)

Oil leaks and a soft brake pedal might be other things to watch for.

You should have fun with that car. I really enjoyed running my GTI, even though it wasn't very fast. I ran mine in G-Stock, where I got slaughtered, but I think it was the most popular GS car in Michigan, due to the unbelieveable 3 wheel action. You couldn't drive that car through a corner on all 4 wheels to save your life. I think it literally spent at least 40% of a typical course on 3 wheels.
