My wife got me a copy of a UK Mini magazine called "GoMini". In the back, they list all the stats of the new Mini.
For the Cooper, they list it as 115HP, which is the same as our US version is rated. But for torque, they list 150 ft*lbs ... Which, if they're measuring the same way we do, is insanely optimistic - probably more than 30 ft*lbs too high. So, do they have a different way of looking at torque output or something? Or are they just plain crazy? Because that little motor is not making nearly that much torque. I don't even think the Cooper S makes that much torque :flame:

I will ask some Brits.

check with dwight, but wouldn't "british torque" be measured by which tractor your motor came out of before it was used in your sports car? ;)

Here is your answer from the UK. It's a typo. 150 is the metric number, in Newton-metres:
=========================
Maybe not plain crazy but just a little lax on the proofreading. The figure
should be 150Nm, (111 ft/lbs) See
http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=139&i=8349
Incidentally the Cooper S makes 155 ft/lbs standard and 172 in JCW form.

Actually, torque figgers are usually higher than HP figgers..
Usually!
That does sound a tad high though for that displacemeent/HP.
As for 914 Dave, I quote;
"check with dwight, but wouldn't "british torque" be measured by which tractor your motor came out of before it was used in your sports car? "
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
Actually they did use Triumph engines in some tractors, but it was long after they were used in sports cars.
Hah!
Tractor engine, harumph!:flame:
