--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On April 10th Land O' Lakes Region SCCA will be holding our 2010 Open House at Derhaag Motorsports in Shakopee from 10 to 2 PM.

This year is a historic year for LOL. We are holding our first sanctioned club race at BIR in 10 years (The July 4th Jack Pine Sprints). The Trans Am event over Labor Day weekend will be the first SCCA Pro race at BIR since 1989. You can be a part of this exciting come back.

The Sports Car Club of America is a volunteer based organizations. We have many positions at our events that need to be staffed by volunteers. Land O' Lakes region has always been known as a fun organization to be a part of and this is a huge goal of the club as we re-establish ourselves.

Areas that most anybody can help with are Corner Working, Timing and Scoring, Grid Organization, Registration, Technical inspection and more. We also have needs for people with a background in EMT or fire rescue.

This year we will be borrowing experienced volunteers from outside of our region but our goal is to become self sufficient over time. These experienced people will be our "trainers" this year.

At this meeting you can learn more about volunteering to help stage our 2010 events and learning more about competing in our many Road Racing , Rally Cross, Solo and Road Rally events.

Talk to drivers and other volunteers. Tour the State of the Art Derhaag shop and see their Trans Am Corvettes up close.

If you have an interest in racing someday, being invloved at this level will give you an insight into driving that will be very valuble when you hit the track. If you are a general race fan there is no better seat in the house than to be part of the organization that stages the event. Being an experienced SCCA volunteer gives you a skill that you can use at tracks and events all over the country (or world).

We will also be holding a silent auction for a day a the the BIR Performance Driving School. This school admission is for a full day of Spec Racer Ford sessions at BIR, not just the basic school admission.

We hope to see you there!

Here's an official announcement I received regarding this event, which includes some additional information:

SCCA Road Racing Returns To Brainerd International Raceway -
Racing Enthusiast Open House April 10

Minneapolis, MN – March 23, 2010 – The Sports Car Club of America, Land O’ Lakes Region is pleased to announce that a full slate of SCCA Club Racing classes will once again compete at Brainerd International Raceway(BIR) on July 3 & 4, 2010. The Jack Pine Sprints Quadruple Regional marks the first time in 10 years that SCCA-sanctioned racing has been held at BIR.

Adding additional excitement to the weekend, the races will run on BIR’s newly configured 2.5 mile road course. Because a good number of volunteer workers are needed, anyone interested in this and other Club events is invited to the LOL Open House at Derhaag Motorsports, 749 Canterbury Road in Shakopee on Saturday, April 10 from 10AM-2PM.

Up to 150 race cars representing 10 different race groups will be featured at the July event, from showroom stock to super prepared, purpose-built, highly technical race cars, driven by some of the best amateur drivers from all over the nation. SCCA is proud to be bringing Club Road Racing back to Minnesota and is excited to partner with Brainerd International Raceway to host this event. BIR has a rich road racing history and is one of the premier tracks in the nation.

SCCA’s Land O’ Lakes Region is composed of over 400 members, involved in all aspects of club racing, including road racing, autocross, rally cross and solo events. “Our events are staffed and managed by volunteers from the club, and this is a great way to get close to the action and feel the thrill and excitement of racing” said Kathy Gillen, event coordinator. “We are always looking for new racers as well as volunteers to help staff events and have many opportunities for both experienced and inexperienced volunteers who love racing”. I’ve been to Jim's race shop a couple times for SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) events and I must say the eye candy is worth the trip… Jim builds and rents cars for Trans Am and manufactures body panels selling them to other race teams… I’m planning on attending this one…
