This is a call for volunteers interested in serving as Event Masters and/or Course Designers for
2010 MAC Events. I'd like to have these key volunteer positions lined up for all events in the
next 30 days. Below is a list of Events, with designated Event Masters & Course Designers
noted, in cases where volunteers have already stepped forward. Any spots shown in red still
need to be filled/confirmed. Please note, the Event Master and Course Designer should NOT
be the same person.

Members who wish to work as co-EM's are encouraged to do so. In such cases, I will ask that
one person be officially designated as Event Master and the other as Chief of Course/Course
Designer.

Members who haven't been an Event Master before, but want to learn the ropes, are
encouraged to volunteer as an Assistant EM. If you don't have an experienced member lined
up to team with, just let me know you're interested, and I'll see what I can do to match you
up with someone.

Could I do a stint as co-course designer sometime and then perhaps go solo (ta-dump-bump) at a later event?

Jay, Have you helped with course setup before? If not, I'd start with that. Helping with Friday set up at Valleyfair is very good experience, as we invariably have a lot of issues and course elements to deal with. A good next step would be tagging along with Randy, if you plan to attend the May TnT event.

914 Dave

I would like to help by co-EMing and coarse design for the Mowog 9 event at Midway.
(but I don't want to screw up the end of season FUN event)
So rather than Steve just listing me, I would like to leave the decision to you.

Thanks jonathan

I'll take EM and course design/theme for M9. Mr. Grothe is welcome to be the co-em for that event, as Nate has left us for the world of the married with (soon to have) children. Maybe one day our little Nate will return to the flock... and awaken the GT from its slumber.

There really is no need for course design for teen school, as we will be using the same layout as last season, to match the course and course notes laid out in the instructor materials. Charles, you are welcome to come and help set up and maintain the course. Steve Buetow did this for us last season, maybe the 2 of you could work as a team to set, check, and maintain the course and the course change overs as needed between sessions. I'll soon be posting up for help for the teen school, so we can be ready aheady this season, I'll look for you to chime in there as well.

I'll take EM for MOWOG #6 and Course Designer for #3. Maybe with the practice I'll even get decent at EM'ing.

Anyone want Course Designer for #6?

Sign me up to AEM MOWOG 1. I haven't done it before, so if EM is willing to show me the ropes, I'll do it.

You're on the list. This is the perfect job/event to learn a lot about how our events operate. It's a big event, and being the first one of the year, we typically have more issues to deal with than any other event. It's not required, but you may wish to participate in course setup on Friday afternoon. We typically try to sort out any issues on Friday, so Saturday is a bit less hectic. Dinner at the Tin Shed after setup has become a bit of a MAC tradition, and a great opportunity to socialize.

Is there such thing as an apprentice course designer? If so I'd like to learn.

No problemo, I've only course designed at DCTC once but "apprenticed" at M3. Walking with Steve G. was super helpful as he's seen a lot of courses there over the years and seen what does and doesn't work.

Generally if you sign up for "course setup" and walk with the mini-cone cart, you'll get a pretty good idea and have input into what works and doesn't. The course designer comes up with a rough plan and modifies it based on the way things look when we actually lay cones down. It's kind of a consensus democratic vote with the small group walking. Would love to have you! We can even sketch out the general course layout together.

OK, I'll put you on the list. You know the drill - just get me a draft design a few days in advance.

Just sign up for course setup when the posting comes out.
