M7 sign up has opened, this will be the unofficial almost end of the season last shot at the mini-golf of midway autocross event. In the past, the MAC event schedule has worked out such that our last event of the season would be at midway, and as most of the points battles for MAC and Met counsel would have been decided by then, for the last 2 seasons we have made the last event a theme event.

2 seasons ago, we started this silliness with the "Tiki-cross", best remembered by our friend Paul with a grass skirt on the rollbar of the Speedwell, and a coco-nut bra strapped to either side of the roll bar foreword brace to go with the skirt. Those "nuts" and that long brace looked a bit like something else, and he about died laughing when this was pointed out to him.

Last season was the "Groovy-cross", a wild and tie-died Austin Powers kinda thing, highlighted by Andres as the perfect hippy, and a certain Bmod and Elise decked out in union jack decor.

This year, its.... THE SUPERHERO-CROSS

The rules are simple. There are none. Got a favorite super hero? Dress yourself like that person, and dress your ride like theirs. Your super hero got no cool ride? Come up with an interesting one that would be appropriate. Or in-appropriate, if you like. Got no superhero in mind? Invent one, his/her outfit, super power, and ride.

OK, one rule- no capes or similar stuff trailing off your car. This could be a safety concern for the workers, or possibly cause issues for timing. All cars must still pass tech, and the decision of myself or the chief of tech is final.

Get it? You don't have to be any to traditional here. Let your imagination run a little, and have some fun with this. Its the event following Nats, so bringing a light-hearted twist to our favorite sport, after what was for some a stressful wrap up to the big show is not such a bad idea. Its OK to laugh and have fun at an event.

I'll be running this show, and the course should be somewhat familiar to those of you who were at the last 2 theme events. Rather than setting it up with minimal cones, I may just use a TON of them, just to give things a different look and feel. Or not.

I'll be posting the sign up worker sign up sheets following the holiday weekend, so everyone has an equal chance to grab the job of their choice. If anyone has some pics from prior events, post them up here to inspire and encourage...

Worker sign up for this event will be posted tonight, 6-7 pm or so, so if you want a particular spot, check back then.

Any wild ideas? I have had a few discussions off line, and one of the best was this one: a frumpy brown suit with vest, shaggy hair wig, and rent some crazy old car, perhaps a 70's Rolls Royce or something similar, and show up as James May. Sadly the person who was going to do this has work out of town that weekend, so unless someone picks up the ball on this one, it could be a great idea wasted.

You don't have to spill the idea, but, hows the brain storming coming out there?

Not to give my secret identity away, but often where you find heros, or super heros, you will find a super villain...

Sounds awesome!

Does anyone know where I can find like Black painters tape? Or another black tape that wont leave residue? My spidey senses are tingling...

This is going to be interesting driving down the road to the event... I think I might get my windows tinted to hide my face...

...but then getting pulled over for tint and trying to explain why my car looks like it does to the officer... haha.

So.... can my wife sign up.. dress as wonderwoman, then just run through the course in her invisible automobile?

There is the dual benefit of her looking both like an idiot running through the course..... and having my wife dressed as wonder woman

Only if it passes tech.

And I am guessing there is no class for invisible vehicles, so she would have to run it in SI

Only if *it* passes tech.

Andrew- is *it* the suit or the car?

And I am guessing there is no class for invisible vehicles, so she would have to run it in SI

There would be the issue for you to resolve of having numbers and class displayed...

...and the question on everyones mind... how long have you two had that suit?

I've had some discussions and PM's from you guys about ideas for the M7 event- its all good.

How about this one: Lone Ranger had Tonto. Cheech had Chong. Sponge Bob has Patrick. Batman has Robin.

SuperHero teams.

If you have a: co-driver, friend, spouse, significant other, son, daughter, neighbor showing up, maybe a SuperHero team?

Kevin and Judy Cyr and the Cayman as SpeedRacer, Trixie, and the Mach 5, or maybe Charles and Jocelin and the S2K CR as Batman, Catwoman, and the, ah, um, BatCat mobile?

Hey, it could happen...

Keep the good ideas flowing, I've had several PM's from folks bouncing ideas around- some of the hero sort, several of the arch villain sort....

Should be interesting on sunday.

Its almost here... check out JCN's new pic... could this be a sign of the future?

...and, anyone out there with some time and mad surfing skills? I thought so.

Can I get a little help with this?

Could I ask you to use your crazy internet skills to make a 15-20 minute mash of some good superhero theme tunes? I'm thinking wonderwoman, 6million dollar man, james bond, A-Team, maybe a few quotes, like hanibal smith from Ateam: "I love it when a plan comes togather", and stuff like that. Just something to toss on an iPod or MP3 player and jack into the PA while we are doing set up and change overs.

THANKS!

Dave

At the monthly membership meeting he was suggesting/threatening to get a childs size superman costume and wear that...

CAMERAS! Don't forget cameras- we'll need plenty of pics to document this mess.
(anyone take a crack at some theme music?)

Crap, I just looked out my window to see cop cars everywhere and hundreds or thousands of people getting ready to run a marathon.

Now I gotta figure out how to get out of downtown.
