I am working with the chief of paddock to set aside space for Little Minnesota as we did last year... except this time we will hopefully have ONE HUGE PADDOCK for all of Minnesota, Milwaukee, and Chicagoland. In order to pull this off, here is what we have to do. PLEASE LOOK BELOW to see if your name is listed. If you are arriving Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, the chances are YOU have a role to play in this exercise.

Please do me a favor and review the information below!!

Team One Out ... when you arrive in Lincoln, after registration, obviously you will check in with Paddock. There should be a huge area of 40 spaces not officially "reserved" but hopefully "penciled in" for MINNESOTA/MILWAUKEE/CHICAGO. This includes 15 spaces for MAC and 25 spaces for MILWAUKEE/CHICAGO. If there is no penciled in space, please ask to talk to Phil Osbourne (chief of paddock) and ask him to please pencil off (not reserve, just “pencil on the map”) a block of 40 contiguous spaces per previous conversations with Chris DeLay and Tracy Ramsey.

Phil says he will do his best to accommodate us, but we need to be "following the rules"… so we will be doing so in a very organized fashion. In order to make this work, we all need to start saving spaces for other people. It is especially important for the people who are arriving EARLY to help make this process a success.

FRIDAY

Katie Lacey
Reserve one space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Darryl Wrolson - 41 DSP (arriving within 24 hrs)

Gretchen Austin
Reserve one space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Steve Jones – 141 DSP (arriving within 24 hrs)

Neal Tovsen
Reserve one space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Pat Washburn - 186 ST (arriving within 24 hrs)

Ivan Austin
Reserve one space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Chris DeLay - 86 ST (arriving within 24 hrs)

This will get us 8 spaces in a row by the end of day Friday. Please try to “occupy” all 8 spaces instead of leaving a giant open space.
Meanwhile...
At the same time as all the stuff above is going on, the following MIL/CHI people should be checking in and saving space too:
Jason Frank saving 1 space for Mark McKnight
Craig Mankiewicz saving 1 space for Eric Vandermey
Jeff Cashmore saving 1 space for Bud Collins
Denise Cashmore saving 1 space for George Schmitt
Tracy Ramsey saving 1 space for Jim Harn
Erik Stemler saving 1 space for Bartek Borowski
Steve Wynveen saving 1 space for Hubert Borowski
Kenton Cabiness saving 1 space for Jon Ma
Greg Meier saving 1 space for Patrick Montelo
Alex Tziortsis saving 1 space for Laurie Montelo

SATURDAY
On Saturday, the following people will check in:

Reserve one new space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Keith Beumer / Dan Moulin – 87/187 FM (arriving within 24 hrs)

Pat Washburn
Reserve one new space in the MN/MIL/CHI block and..
--> please save 1 space for Harry Aro / Tim Aro – 39/139 CSP (arriving within 24 hrs)

Darryl Wrolson

Anyone not mentioned above, and anyone arriving MONDAY or later:
There should not be a need to save or reserve any more spaces. Ask the paddock worker where the giant 40-space MIN/MIL/CHI block of paddock spaces are. If they don’t know, ask where Chris DeLay and Pat Washburn are paddocked. Then proceed to our area…

That number sounds low to me. Given all the RV's and large trailers, it looks like we'll need closer to 11 or 12 spaces. Keep in mind that you need to add ramp space, so a tow vehicle & large trailer will burn up a full space.

Yes, my new estimate was 10 after the last few updates. Which is good because I was sandbagging and told our Chief of Paddock 10-12, and I'm working with Tracy R. to coordinate Milwaukee and Chicago paddock needs as well.

If this thing goes as planned, we may end up with one huge space for all MAC/Milwaukee/Chicago folks. In Tracy's words, "thats a lot of alcohol!" :D

OK looks like 12 paddock spaces would be ideal. We could get away with 10, but Tuesday afternoon would be a little tight. Nothing we couldn't deal with however.

Chicago/Milwaukee is going to need closer to 23 spaces due to the number of people trailering their cars.

I will be Chief of Spectating/Cheering for the Pro Solo. I can add Chief of Little MN to my list of duties, let me know what you want me to do.

BTW, I believe the trailer is 35'. We will not have the Vannel there, so no need to count that in your final paddock count. I'm pretty sure we will be able to find room for the MAC tent. Neal, would you be able to pick that up Saturday after the T-n-T? And throw a box of chalk in with the canopy parts if you think of it.

Seems to make sense, but isn't it going to raise an eyebrow when people showing up in the same vehicle have two reserved spaces? Or am I just making an issue out of something that isn't (as you have been told by the officials "this is how to do it"). Just wondering.

P.S. Thanks for the effort!

Individual competitors may save ONE additional 15X50 ft. space for another competitor, if the competitor is arriving within 24 hours. If the occupant of the saved space has not confirmed their arrival at the paddock window within 24 hours, the saved space is subject to reassignment. If a competitor requests to save more than one additional 15X50ft space, please contact Paddock Chief.

Two driver teams driving the same competition car should be encouraged to share a paddock space.

YES... however, this is a unique situation. The only reason we are doing it this way is so we can follow the rules (one saved space per person) and still have enough spaces for all our competitors long before everyone arrives. Ultimately, the paddock space number you are assigned will be meaningless. It's just part of the giant paddock space, you can park anywhere. We are putting 90 drivers into 40 spaces (over the course of the whole week - not all at once), which is definitely HELPING the cause, not hurting it...

MustGoFaster
08-31-2009, 07:22 PM
I see how the math works there, and agree on it being helpful. I see it's NOT a rule that co-drivers share a space, therefor even if a person not "in the know" says anything, it doesn't matter anyway. Good work! :rockon

And some 5-driver teams like the Montelo clan from Chicago show up in a 50' motorhome and a 20' trailer, and enough stuff (and people) to fill up 3 paddock spaces easy. ;)

So really what we are doing is a little creative. But in the end it works. Everyone just print out the first page of this thread so you know what to say when you get there! :D

How late is paddock check-in manned?

Not sure it's a big deal but some of the Saturday people will be arriving late in the day. I'm a little more flexible in arrival time but Tim A doesn't arrive until 7:00pm. A Sunday morning check-in may be the only option depending on when check-in shuts down Saturday.

Probably not a big deal, just throwing it out there.

It's OK, I think paddock check in will be closed by then... but it's not a big deal. Here's how it works. Paddock spaces are reserved in a database. When you reserve a spot for someone, you put the date it was reserved in the paddock space database record. After 24 hours, nothing happens automatically. In order for the paddock worker (me) to know a space has been saved for more than 1 or 2 days, I would have to manually pull up the record for that space and look at it. So if Tim doesn't show up until 7pm, no big deal.

The only time this starts to become a problem is when we start running short on space (late Sunday, early Monday). When that happens, people start patroling paddock, then they come back and say "spaces 100 thru 120 are empty" and we check to see if they are saved. If they have been saved more than 24 hours, we can reassign them. But it's an entirely manual process.

However, everyone should try to get to registration/paddock check in ASAP... so if it's closed when you arrive, please try to get there early in the morning the next day!

I think we are coming down Sunday now if that changes anything. Was hoping to be down by 10pm.
Nope, if you are getting in late Sunday, it doesn't change anything. You'll end up hitting paddock check in early Monday morning I suppose... by then hopefully all our spots will be saved and you can just proceed to paddock.

Yeah, I don't have a huge concern about space, as long as we get our block of 40 for all 3 regions, then 13 to 15 spaces out of the 40 will be ours. As a comparison...

2008
HPT paddock spaces were 25' x 45'
We had 6 spaces last year for about 30 competitors
150' x 45' = 6750 square feet

2009
LAP paddock spaces are 15' x 50'
We should have 15 spaces for ~39 competitors
225' x 50' = 11250 square feet

Ok -- we will be there tonight (Tues), probably around 10 or 11. We can get in and park the trailer in the paddock that late at night, correct? I'm assuming they don't close the gates.

The last thing I want to do is have to park downtown with the whole rig.

Is there someone who's willing to meet up with us at the gate and give us a little direction to the paddock spot?

EDIT: Maybe someone could just shoot me a text message with the info -- we may be on the road already when someone reads this. Thanks!
