Are we doing sound level checks this weekend? I'm wondering if we pass sound....

My personal take on sound measurements, is be ready to meet sound if your travelling, even if you get a "pass" here. I saw the readings on Chris's car last year. 15 to 20 db difference at two events. I think Matt's BMW read really loud in Milwaukee, and that thing was stock quiet. The point is, sound readings are so dependent on weather, topography, placement, setup, what you had for breakfast that day, that they are almost worthless except for the day and place they are taken.

Just trying to get a ballpark of if we're at, "No freaking way" kind of loud or just "ear bleeding loud."

Based on what I heard, I vote no freakin way :) Thanks for the reminder, I need to add ear plugs to my packing list.

You should hear it in VTEC....

I still have our previous Comptech exhaust sitting in the garage.

From what I heard at midway your car is really freaking loud at any short of throttle.... And that was from the parking lot. One reason for that may be that there are lots of buildings around so it's like being bombarded with noise from every direction, it may be less of an issues at more open events.

But there were a lot of higher up peoples there who should be able to answer this question.

When I had my 2k3s2k I keep it 100% stock. I wish I would of slaped this on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5SgZckdWOo OMG that sounds SICK!:rockon

Well, I think it was clear they were picking up someone else's car on course, I don't think you could measure that from inside the muffler of my car. =]

Charles I think if you are not sure it'll pass sound, that's probably a good sign you should make it quieter anyway.

I'm not sure it'll pass sound because I have no idea what 103dB at 50 ft (or whatever the official requirements are) sounds like.

The ST Civics and some AS S2000s run with just a turn-down.

I do know that running with the silencer in chokes down the AF ratios. It would follow that we're making less hp with less flow.

Wouldn't you want to get as close to "legal" as possible to maximize performance?

If it was me, I'd put the Comptech back on. But it seems silly to go for horsepower and then cut yourself off at the knees.

Wynveen thinks it'll pass official sound. Cashmore doesn't. It's LOUD. It's too loud for my taste. But is it too loud for the rules? Seems like dB testing would be the only answer.

Maybe I can borrow the equipment or do a quick sound check.

Test and tune, maybe.

Is it louder than my car? All I have is a resonator, and I've passed the sound tests at 3 events where it was measured.

See, that's what I'm talking about! :rockon

There are a few MAC cars that meet sound, but are too loud for comfortable street driving.

I think we're somewhere between the EBS and an F500. But I've not had the chance to hear our car from the outside while running.

It's definitely loud enough to cause pain to a corner worker if they're very close to the car. But I think still quieter than the Nationals limit (if I'm remembering some of the mod cars correctly).

I think it's very obnoxious, but there's no denying the improved airflow.

In my very own unselfish and giving manner I'd like to offer to drive your car for you while you stand by the side of the track. It might take a few runs for you to get a good idea of exactly what it sounds like, but like I said, I'm just a giving sorta guy, I'm there for you Charles... :D
