Two weeks ago my '96 Civic EX was totalled. The car is gone but now I am stuck with the owner's manual and two remote keys for the thing. Can anybody make use of them? If you want them they're yours.

Also I have a Chilton's manual for the Civic I'll let go for $10. Any takers?

Come on now. That is an awful enticing subject line!

I clicked to see if you maybe had an engine or something for me...dang. :D

Sorry 'bout that. Just wanna off-load this stuff and it seems like a waste to just pitch it if someone could use an owner's manual.

Now that I am looking again...What would be involved in getting the keyless entry fob-things to be reprogrammed to work for my car?

Mine are wearing quickly.

Not sure about Honda remotes. On my Audi the remotes can be very easily reprogrammed by the dealer. $10 last time I had it done.

I don't know about the older Civics, but here is how you would reprogram a new Accord key to work with an Element:

Step 1: Turn ignition switch to ON (II)
Step 2: Push remote lock button
Step 3: Turn ignition switch off

Step 4: Turn ignition switch to ON (II)
Step 5: Push remote lock button
Step 6: Turn ignition switch off

Step 7: Turn ignition switch to ON (II)
Step 8: Push remote lock button
Step 9: Turn ignition switch off

Step 10: Turn ignition switch to ON (II)
Step 11: Push remote lock button
Step 12: Confirm that you hear the door locks move

Step 13: Within 8 seconds, press the 1st remote lock button
Step 14: Confirm that you hear the door locks move

Step 15: Within 8 seconds, press the 2nd remote lock button
Step 16: Confirm that you hear the door locks move

Step 17: Within 8 seconds, press the 3rd remote lock button
Step 18: Confirm that you hear the door locks move

Step 19: Turn ignition OFF, and remove key.
Step 20: Confirm that your keyless remotes now work.

This comes from http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?s=b581cd23ff1166ee6752fb30dfce978f& amp;threadid=33806&highlight=accord+key%2A. The new Accord keys come with an integral remote, and some people with other Hondas have been buying them and retrofitting the immobilizer chip. Scroll to the bottom for pictures.
