View Full Version : Volunteer Signup - MOWOG 1 & 2

MNbiker
04-06-2009, 11:27 PM
MOWOG 1 & 2 are fast approaching, so it's time to get volunteers confirmed for event setup and operations positions. Please help us get all positions filled ASAP. For new members - most volunteers will sign up for work positions day of event. This is just for the volunteers required to get the event set up & running. :)

If your name is already listed, please confirm you will be at the event and able to work.

Please note - Friday setup does not count as a work assignment for the Saturday/Sunday events. However, the Saturday/Sunday jobs do count as your work assignment for that day.

Thanks!

Steve Garnjobst, Event Master

I'd like to do the Novice course walk both days: Charles K.

If I do a poor job, I'll chase cones as penance.

Hey, something Steve said in a different thread reminded me to ask:
Can we borrow the walkie talkies for the novice walk and give a few to the people in the back who otherwise can't hear the person up front?

Random question:

If you're working the gate:
1.) how do you get registered if you're working the first shift from 7 to 8:30? Would you register after your shift or can you register before everyone else at 7?

2.) if you work the second shift, don't you miss the mandatory drivers meeting? Would having a friend relay info be acceptable to cover the meeting then?

Thanks

Charles,

You're in. Rather than loaning out radios just before we need them for the event, I'd rather split the group into a more manageable size. I have two of you conducting Novice walks - just split the group in half. If we need a third course walk leader, I'm sure we can talk someone into it.

If you're working the gate:
1.) how do you get registered if you're working the first shift from 7 to 8:30? Would you register after your shift or can you register before everyone else at 7? Workers starting early are checked in before registration opens.

If you're working the gate:
2.) if you work the second shift, don't you miss the mandatory drivers meeting? Would having a friend relay info be acceptable to cover the meeting then? Certain workers are excused from the drivers' meeting, including the late-shift gate worker, tech workers, and a few others. In the case of everyone except the gate worker, this is so they can get a course walk or two in before the event starts.

Please note: None of the pre-event jobs are ideal for someone new to autocross. If you're not familiar with how our events operate, and/or have concerns about memorizing the larger Valleyfair courses - then you probably shouldn't work one of the pre-event assignments. There are also plenty of work assignments during competition runs. Signup for these work assignments is done during onsite check-in.

That sounds great!
We could even try an early and later coursewalk, if you thought it would work logistically. It might give uber noobs a chance to hear it twice (and limit getting lost, etc).

But I think dual coursewalk sounds like a good idea with the number of SI participants. You can't see or hear anything when the coursewalk size gets large.

Thanks!

I still can't believe no one has jumped on Phil's cushy Numbers Czar job. ;)

If someone already signed up to help out on Friday is willing to drive the truck over (Mark? Josh?) I can drop you back at your car after we're finished setting up and & have our traditional dinner & beverages at the Tin Shed on Friday.

I still can't believe no one has jumped on Phil's cushy Numbers Czar job. ;)

Just to disambiguate:

What I am not volunteering for is working at Registration on MAC event days.

I'm still the Met Council Numbers Czar.

I still will do work on the MAE registration site for MAC in the period from the opening of the online registration until the day before the event.

How the Registration crew handles number issues on event day is up to them. MAC has kindly donated computer space on this forum for the list updates, so Registrars of any Met Council club can use the latest update.

Entrants can help save both the Registration crew and themselves a lot of hassle on event day by two simple actions:
1. Get a Met Council permanent number reserved.
2. Enter it on your online entry in the box marked for Met Council permanent numbers.
This will get your car number approved and entered into the timing computer. You can still do this for events for which you are already registered.

Let me clarify - the cushy Saturday & Sunday jobs only permit you to be the temporary numbers czar. (call it czar for a day!)

Everyone: potential truck drivers have to be approved by our insurance company. Don't volunteer (or volunteer others) without being cleared.

I know. :) Wasn't sure how much lead time our insurance company would need and was feeling out potential options to get the job done.

If Lee is driving the truck, that's great. Otherwise, I can do it Friday morning and Ernest (Hoboman) can give me a ride back to my car. Once you're listed for truck driving, you're always listed, right?

You just had to bring it up didn't you!

That brings to mind- has anyone stopped by the truck to give it a thorough going over before it gets driven again?

Items that should be checked-

Oil level
Coolant
Windshield washer fluid (trust me- when you need this you REALLY need this)
Tire pressure
Lug nuts
Lug nut torque (not to be confused with the above)
Headlights
Turn Signals (truck and trailer)
Brake Lights (truck and trailer)

Other things I can't think of while sitting here?

If this has not been done I could meet someone at the storage site Wednesday or Thursday evening to go over everything (to check the lights you need a friend). Let me know.
