MAPerformance is doing a spring dyno day on May 9th. I believe that they have an AWD dyno. This is already all planned out and scheduled, we could tag along to that, or do our own thing at RS.
Sweet. Good deal! I wanted to see our DynoJet numbers.
Any further information on the MAPerformance Dyno Day?

Just heard back from Adam that the 9th is not going to work and he is going to have to move that date. I'll post up here when I hear more from him about when we can do it.
I think that they had 13 people signed up for it from the Subaru group before they set the date.
I checked with Adam and they DO have an exhaust gas analyzer hooked up so we can ensure that we aren't running too lean anywhere.

Further news, he is going to make the 9th a MNAutoX dyno day, so it will just be us if we can get enough interest.
Just send me a PM or respond to this thread if you want to do it and I will work it out with MAP.

Shouldn't every dyno have AFP as well as a way to monitor boost? That would be pretty odd...

I've been to lots of dynos, and most do not have something to check the exhaust gases. Makes you wonder how they are 'tuning' cars, doesn't it?

Wideband sensor in the O2 sensor bung?

Wideband sensor in the O2 sensor bung?
I assume if they are tuning a car they have the computer hooked into the emissions system and can make sure it's not lean. I don't know how it would make a difference once it is tuned unless your on bad gas.
I would like to see what the car runs on a DynoDynamics. Mustangs shoot for the skys from what I heard

Yep. Our wideband gauge is up on the dash and the sensor replaces the secondary O2 sensor.
Mustang dynos read ~12-15% lower than a DynoJet or DynoDynamics and about 20-30% off bhp.
I think I'd be a lot more comfortable doing a dyno day with MAC'rs rather than a FnF crowd.

They can get through 20-25 in a full day starting at open and running to close. They are open 9:30 to 7.
For those that are worried about the time of day, that depends entirely on how many people we get signed up. If we have 25 people signed up, we are going to be there all day long. If we get only the 10 that are already signed up, then we could probably start at noon or something.
Also, in talking with Adam, the $55 rate with food is if everyone pre-pays for their runs and we have fewer than 20 people. The food would be chicken and steak. If we have 20+ people we get $50 rate and food. But, we can also pre-pay for the bring your own grub option to guarantee a spot. It's not an all-or-nothing on the food either, we can have any variation of food and not-food.
So, lets get some more people signed up! I want to see what the angry bar of soap (ABS) can put down!
I'm not sure the EBS is angry. ;) Steve's tag line says 280whp. But since he put in the new head last year, maybe he's interested in checking that the new setup is still producing?

I'll give Adam a call today and see if we'd be good with a ~10 person dyno day. Something like 11am-whenever. Because it's more for the hanging out than anything else. If more people can make the afternoon, then we should center around the afternoon.

Out of curiousity, who's thinking about the $5 food option? They want a $50 food commitment ($5 x 10). I'm thinking I'd rather eat Josh and Matt's BBQ if we're going that route...
My main priority is to hang out and enjoy a Spring day with cars and friends. No food would be a deal breaker for me. :p

If we get more than 20 peeps we get free food.
But, I can try and talk the wife into a BBQ at my house if we want to go that route. We have a rooftop grill and patio that we could use, nice view of downtown as well. For $50 I can get quite a bit of food at Rainbow and make up something good after the dyno rips and we can all sit around and have a burger and a beer.

Confused? Are you bailing on the Dyno if there is no food:?
I would love to do lunch but can't since I won't arrive until 2:00.
Adam from MAPerformance is unwilling to commit to food unless 10 people prepay for it.
I thought that was B.S.
At this point, I'm of the following mindset:
I'll prepay for the group's food to guarantee grub (there should still be food at 2pm, Steve). Because without food, I'm going to the Afton Alps Hillclimb instead. :rockon
If they want to be more flexible, then I may dyno. Otherwise, I'm hanging out at a BBQ with my friends which is cool with me. I've dynoed at RS Motors earlier this season so it's not really necessary for me to dyno again.

we just broke my dads engine in on the dyno - its actually a great way to do things - you can monitor so much and we were able to find a lean condition that we would not have found otherwise.

I think as long as we have 10 people, we're fine. I'd rather hang out with people I know than stand around watching random cars and people dyno. If we needed more people, we could tap the subi group that originally had the slot. But I think we're okay.

Haha we generally have 25-30 people dynoing. This is the first time we've tried using MAE registration and I think people aren't too fond of prepaying. My guess is the day before about 20 people will register :D

I'm more interested in the A/F ratio throughout the band, and it sounds like they do that, so I'm good.

Okay, new rule...
If you can't identify 5 MAC members by face walking down the street and you're posting to come dyno....
1. Please give a little information about yourself.
2. Please give a little information about your car.
This is supposed to be a club thing. Better club spirit if we can actually say, "Hi Matt / Josh / Dan, etc." when you show up instead of, "Who are you?"

While I can identify 5 MACers walking down the street, I doubt they'd be able to identify me so I'll post some info.
My name is Karl Tronnes. I started going to autocross events last year at the novice school, and I also have five road course driving events under my belt. I work in IT like a lot of people on the forums, with the one unfortunate result of having to work every Sunday from 8am to 8pm so events are hard to get to.
I drove a blue Acura RSX Type-S for the first few events last year, but switched to a 1989 Porsche 944S2 for the last couple of events. I'm hoping to improve a bit from last year as I believe I finished pretty much dead last in PAX. I'd like to believe it was due to worn front sway bar bushings and 10 year old all-season tires, but we'll find out soon enough :)

Hi my name is Antonio, and I have not done any autoX events yet. I'm planing on finishing all my suspension mid summer, that means I might be coming to a few autox events :) I have done some go-karting at Prokart indoors. So far none of my friends can beat me. About my MX-3, it started as a $600 POS. I always loved MX-3s since the day my mom had one. So I went out and got my own MX-3 after selling my TT Stealth. My goal with this MX-3 is to go all out with a low budget. You have no idea how cheap this build has been. Also I'm the 1st MX-3 in the world with a BP engine on ITBs 8) Alright, that's enough! Get to know me more at MAP's dyno day lol :rockon

Sorry guys, I'm out. Too many activities and too little time. As much as I'd like a base line for the GTO. I will not be adding anything to it this year. So I don't really need to do this year. I'm pretty sure it will fall between 320-340 anyways. Good luck and have fun.
Okay, final headcount.

You can come up with me if you want. I was at MAP today to get some welding done, and it sounds like they are crazy busy to meet some deadlines for their shop cars and events they have to go to. Charles you might want to double check with them that everything is golden
I talked to Adam today and we're still on for this weekend.
They will be plotting AF ratios and boost levels.
What time are people showing up? I'll probably be there around 11am.

I'm on the fence now. Want to see my AFR levels, but car is missing at the moment. I am in NC and not sure when I will get to look at it. Might have to back out of the TNT since it is on Mothers day. D'oh!! If I miss that then I will have to hit a track day at BIR at the end of the month.

Quick question - for those that have been MAP, how steep is the approach for their dyno?
I have <2" ground clearance in the front... wondering if I'm going to have to leave my bumper/splitter at home...

I think you should be able to get in, however, it will probably be a PITA to hook up the straps under your car. You may be more safe taking it off

Hey I have a quick question. I was telling my boss about this and he would really like to dyno his 911 Turbo. And another one of our customers has a 996TT converted to RWD that is setup for club racing. He would like to dyno as well.
I know you wanted to kind of have it as a club thing, but it would be cool to see these cars dyno. Both are in the 400ish to 400+ whp range. Is it cool if they come?

I'm going to drill holes in the stuff-in silencer tonight to help get something in between "ear bleeding" and "moderately annoying."
Looking at the MOWOG 2 datalogs, we had 60 whp on the final left hander in 2nd gear... going to have to do a lot more downshifting to keep it on boil. I'll see if I can do something serviceable with the silencer.

Well, Looks like I can arrive a bit earlier. Sharon took the Jeep to Fargo today to run their marathon tomorrow. This afternoon I realized I needed tthe jeep to take the bike to the start of the MS ride in the morning, I'm not riding to white bear and the bike isn't going to fit in a Miata.
So I guess the bike ride is out and I just need to get a long run in before the dyno tomorrow. I'm hoping to get there around noon.

The 911 Turbo might not be able to run on MAP's dyno since some years of the 911 turbo have a different front to rear torque split that does not play well with dyno's that don't spin all the wheels at the same speed.

My boss's is a 91 I believe so that would be RWD, and the 996 was converted to RWD from AWD so no worries.
Want to say thanks to the guys at MAPerformance for a great time. We finally put longer couplers and T-bolt clamps on the blower. Thanks, Shane, for the assist! It was cool to see all the cars there! Jrod, those Porsches were pretty sweet! Your boss seems cool, too!

Thanks for coming out guys, all the guys definitely had a good time with your group of people. Usually we have some very crabby people at dyno days but you guys were GREAT! I welcome you guys to setup a dyno day any time!
I really appreciate the guys with the porches being very very nice and not the usual owner-type when we were strapping the car. Usually we have guys that don't even allow us to drive their cars onto and ON the dyno. Again, this crowd was very laid back and is MUCH appreciated. Especially when we ran into a few snags.
So if you guys need anything just let me know (ADAM) I will get you guys squared away.
P.S. - I hope you enjoyed me falling off the mini-bike lol.

You guys were great. Didn't just churn us out like cattle, either. It would have been easy to get through as many cars as possible, but it was clear that you guys love cars as much as we do. When a few of us had "mechanicals," you took the time to get things fixed right rather than shooing us away.
Thanks again!! :rockon
