Yeah...if I was willing to take a day of vacation on the 20th, I'd be there. Alas, a five-hour return trip on a Sunday nite is too much for me.

I'm actually considering going, try and shake the winter rust off before M1 and M2. Anybody have any idea what the lot is like? Or is that the same lot that Ivan's video was from?
Milwaukee just seems sooooo far...

Wuss. :p You'd be home in time for a late dinner.

You think? What time do the events usually finish up?

I've only been to a handful of Milwaukee events, so maybe some of the traveling team can comment.
IIRC, 4pm is very doable.
If you've worked your required heats and completed your runs, you can leave even earlier....

Chris and I are seriously considering Iowa for the 19th. Milwaukee is plan B. Not sure yet. I suppose it depends on Chris getting the car together to.
Altoona was fun last year. Be advised they did a two lapper to make the course long enough. It did restrict the flow through the course a little and I think we got 5 runs.

Thanks for the info, Charles.
There's rain in the forecast for this weekend, but I think I'm going to head down anyway.
I'm getting antsy...and I need to try out my magnetic numbers...to...ahhh...make sure they're safe. :rockon

Milwaukee you tend to get out earlier. And if you tell them at worker reg you are from out of state, they usually give you a morning work shift. I have been out as early as 2pm and on my way home. Latest I have gotten home was probably 11PM. It's worth the trip.

But they only run two run groups, so you have a 50/50 chance of running the last heat of the day. And if there are less than 100 people you will definitely have to work two shifts. So the morning work assignment, even if you get one, is certainly no guarantee of getting out early. This coming weekend, with questionable weather (and possibly attendance), I wouldn't expect to be on the road any sooner than 4:30pm.

I'm pretty sure it's the Altoona road for me.

Jake, it looks like Ron and I are planning to be heading out around 6:30 Sunday. If you want to head down with us, we can meet up at Blain's about that time if that works for you.

Aaron,
When do things get started down there? Typically how many runs do you get in?
Aaron B
04-15-2009, 08:27 AM
Should be 6 runs, unless it's a really long course (they're talking about using 3 lots instead of the 2 they used last year) or if there's a huge turnout. They'll give us at least 4 for sure.
DMVR has implemented an earlier close on registration this year (by 10:30, no exceptions) to ensure the drivers meeting gets started on time, so they should be going right at 11:00.

Windy and cloudy, but it was a dry event with 6 runs. The sun even made an appearance towards the end. Gjay came out of winter hibernation quick as all get-out. Me? obviously have some rustyness to take care of.
Sure beat staying home!

Too bad for you mall rats and book worms. This was a fun event on a nice lot. I had a great time but it would have been fun to have seen more from MAC.
I didn't feel too rusty and that was good. The Pro competition was a little rusty so I was leading after the morning. Unfortunatly I didn't improve in the afternoon (common problem for me) and others did. My best run was my third but it was less than 2% better than my first run.
Chris has an amazing data acquisition system he's been working on over the winter and it worked great. We have lots of data to sift through now.
I drove 550 miles to kickstart my season and it was worth it. Great fun with a great group.
Thanks DMVR for a fine event.

Jon just barely edged out Aaron to take the overall PAX. A very nice job by both drivers!

Chris and Jay: you guys were the white Miata staged on the other side of Jon, weren't you? I wish I would have put two and two together and figured out you were MACers; I would have come over and introduced myself.

Somebody that knows John T should tell him his car is not a DS car anymore. I guess it doesn't matter he would have won either way.

I mentioned it to him at the event; it seems a lot of people are unaware of this change.
It wouldn't have cost him the overall PAX, but the GS multiplier does bring Aaron a little closer.
DS: .819
GS: .821
Therefore, Jon's raw time (48.639) x GS multiplier (.821) = 39.933.
Aaron's PAX was 40.022.

Do you happen to know what he was running for tires?
I am thinking of going with the 245/45 R16s on the front. I know last year he didn't use an offset wheel. If he did use them I am wondering if he had any trouble getting them to fit.
VanFab
04-20-2009, 07:43 PM
He had fresh V710s on the stock BBS wheels, but I didn't check the size. I wouldn't have trouble believing they were 245s, though; there looked to be a pretty healthy bulge on the 7" wheel.
We swapped cars for a couple of fun runs after the event and...wow! Driving on R comps really encouraged me to push the street tires a little harder.

That's close. Really wishing i would have relaxed sooner and not overdriven my 2nd and 3rd runs now. Oh well, just have to keep working at it.

Yah, that was us. That is Chris' car and he lives in Iowa. My car looks the same and I live in MN. We'll likely be driving both cars at different events this year. Come and say hey at M1/2 if you're there.
I'm happy with my 5th place PAX though I'd prefer they had gotten my name right. My printing is probably to blame. I can live with getting beat by Joe Tharpe in Pro class. Chris' data will tell me what I should have done. Time to study.

Yeah, the typo threw me a little bit, but I figured the name in your handle and your sig was the right one. ;)
