It's actually not as bad as I expected. There were 40 people registered as of 12:30am this morning...

I thought it might be full by now so I got up at 12:15 to register. It doesn't look like I'll be doing that tomorrow. It looks like there is still confusion on the STS->ST thing. The only other car in Pro when I registered is a Yugo!! That should be no problem.:D

Yup
if you were STS last year you are ST this year
if you were STS2 last year you are STS this year
Also if you're in ST...STS....STX...STU
DON'T CLICK THE STREET TIRE INDEX BOX.......you are already in a street tire class

More of a Yugo SI I think. With the "big" Toyo's if I had to judge from the SCCAForums.com banter.

Jeez. Lighten up, Randy. What's the big deal if they want to keep it a mystery, anyway? Lighten up, have some fun.

Be an elitist and go to Milwaukee in a couple weeks if you can't wait to see it.

I'm thinking they really do have a Yugo. Of course, odds are that it will break down and they will need to change their entries on the day of the event to their alternate car. ;)

I still can't figure out whether or not this whole thing is a joke. :(

I guess I'm not old enough to have a bias against of the Yugo and rule it out as a complete impossibility.

Is it lighter than the 1989 Civic Si?

It will be a privilege to have a nationally competitive Spec Civic at every event as a benchmark.

This makes me wish I had a 4x100 bolt pattern; perhaps some of us could get together for tire testing. Are those 15x7.5 SSRs all around?

Maybe a 16x7.5? Comes with an extra inch in diameter if selecting the Toyos, though...

Or perhaps even a 17x7.5? 215/40ZR17 Dunlop, anyone?

Im on the fence about siging up for mowog2

Moved to mn last year and that was a few months after the novice school last year.

So today while looking at car forums I check this one and see i missed this years class 2 ><

I have never done any autocross in the past but have always wanted to. So that novice class would be right up my alley. I have posted a wtb post seeing if anyone cant go and would want to sell me there spot.

When I moved up here I sold my s2k and got a 08 STi to better handle the weather up here. Im currenty at stage 1 when a perrin map flash. Still running the stock dunlops in the summer months.

What class would i be in with the ecu flash? What class if i added a downpipe and went to stage 2 would i be in? What about bigger front and rear sway bars?

thanks

For now I would recommend signing up in SI until you decide what class you want to be in. Anyone can enter SI providing they have not won an event in that class.

If you can't get in the Novice class, don't worry just let let people know you are new and they will show you the ropes. I was in your shoes last year and if nothing else, sign up, PM me and I'll guide you through the procedures (as best I can):)

You can even have an instructor ride with you on all or some of your drives if you want.

Agreed with Steve. Don't worry about not knowing what to do. Just find anyone that kind of looks like they know what they are doing, and they should be able to help you out.

OK, if you are serious about falling face-first into autocrossing and can't get into the novice school, here is my suggestion for a full-immersion experience:

Sign up now for Mowog 2. Class SI.

Clear your schedule for that weekend.

Beg, borrow or buy a Snell helmet. Loaners at an event are a hassle.

Sign up for a permanent number. Costs a buck and change on paypal. You will get instructions emailed to you after you sign up for M2. Figure out ahead of time how you are going to put your number on your car. Number hassles at the event suck up time and energy that could be used to learn and have fun.

Show up at M1 and volunteer to work. Have your helmet in your car. Walk the course and ask questions (even though you will not be driving this course). Hang around all day, working, watching and learning. Pray that there are fun-runs at day's end. If there are, haunt the grid carrying your helmet with a pleading look on your face (loaners may be difficult to come by). Get as many rides as you can (sorry, you can't drive).

Show up early for M2. Get your car prep done early and walk the course as many times as you can. If one of the highly-motivated does not want to talk to you, it is just that (s)he needs this walk to concentrate. Don't be offended or discouraged, just walk with someone else. Ask around for instructors.

MAC offers instructors to ride with you on every run. Take the offer. Get one of us in your right seat to point out out things. You don't get faster on the run with the instructor. You get more-informed. You will be faster the next run.

Again, pray for fun runs. This time you can drive. :)

Some people understand autocross right away and get really fast right out of the box. These people are VERY rare.

Some people figure out autocross over time and become fast.

Some people figure out autocross over time but run into a wall of their limited native talent.

All of these people can have fun and enjoy the sport for decades. It's addictive, and we can't wait to pull you in. ;)

Additional advice:

Even if you only have a cheapy camera, try to get in-car video of your runs.

Try to befriend veteran drivers.

Compare their videos to yours.

See if someone will critique your videos for you.

Buy / borrow / read autocross instruction books for basic theory.

Im on the fence about siging up for mowog2

Just do it! Nike (TM)

As you can see there are plenty of people willing to lend advice and guide you. If you end up not liking it, it was only $35.

WOWZERS!!! I was not expecting the outpouring of help. I have signed up for mowog#2 entry #139 I believe. As far as my GF goes she is going to come and watch this time around.

I will be looking into buying my own helmet this coming week. I got a big head and I remember my old motorcylce helmet did not smell to good after a while :-p

see you guys out there :rockon

p.s. I guess blue painters tape would be best for a temp soultion to the numbering? I've also sent my $1.35 to claim a number for the 09 season.

Actually, printing big numbers off on a laser printer works better. The black numbers on a white background are easier to read and very simple to tape onto your car. Note: numbers need to be a minimum of 8" tall.

+1 on the big black numbers on a white background. Makes sure that your number doesnt get mixed up in the system, reduces mis-called cones and makes the corner worker jobs MUCH easier.

Glad you are making it out. It is a good group of people and everyone is willing to help out. This is my 3rd season, and people did a great job of making me feel comfortable the first event I was in. I predict you will be addicted ;)

I just got signed up for the Sunday event Mowog2. When I did there was 130 people. I just looked now 10 minutes later to change my class to ST and there is almost 150. They are going fast...

Why would he want another Mid-Engined car? You can't even rotate tires from front to back on them.

Is there going to be the usual waiting list at the event?

Just in case I find a sitter.:)

There is always a waiting list. It wouldn't be the same if you didn't show.

For the sake of those who may not know, ther is no "waiting list" kept prior to the event. Aside from private sales of spots in the for sale section, (which are traded at face value BTW) a list is kept the morning of the event. You show up early....early....and get your name on it. When the no shows are tallied, you may get a spot. Usually works out pretty good, but no guarantee's of course.

Yeah driving all that way to not get in would really suck. But the fact that I may be willing to take that chance just shows the addiction.

Trust me I want to go. It wouldn't feel the same to miss them this year.
