No jokes, here it is, 4-1-09 and we're charging full speed ahead with planning for the school. The "Paul Team" has been working overtime putting together manuals for students, in car coaches, cone workers, classroom instructors, and a pile of other planning to see that our teen driving experience goes as well as we can make it.

The date of the school is June 7, 2009, location: DCTC, Cost: $20.00.

Huh? Only $20 bucks? That will be the sign up fee, any additional donations will be welcomed. We will be paying for the lot and lunch by donations and fund raising already done, and all new money goes right back into the fund for next season.

Our intent for this school is not to bore the students to death with Drivers Ed, they've already passed that, and passed their state test. This is going to be a driving EXPERIENCE, an attempt to speed up the practical experience learning curve a little, the end result (hopefully) will be a more aware, confident, and experienced driver, better able to deal with the challenges of driving on public streets and roads by being more aware of their surroundings, of what they and their car can and CAN'T do.

Who can come to this? We'll have a sign up sheet and a FAQ up shortly, the sign up will be a paper print it out and mail to Dave Kral form. We're looking for 24 brave students, referred by club members, to attend the school this season. Students need not be related to a member, but we want the membership involved here, to spread the word out beyond just family to others who might benefit. Sign up will be 1st come, 1st served, until the event is full. Driving challenges will include a variety of braking and avoidance elements, car control, and... we get to use the wet skid pad, so the drivers can, for example, see how quickly the can stop the car on dry pavement, then try to do it again in the wet. Hmmmmmm......... not quite the same now, is it?

If we are to have students, we need staff. I personally have been impressed with us, with the number of people who have offered to help in person at the monthly club meetings, and thru pm's on the club site, but we still need a few more. Training provided. I'll open a separate thread for this.

For me, its been a busy week with Nancy's ACL repair on monday, my real job the rest of the week, and keeping her drugged up in between. I am hoping to have by monday next week the sign up and FAQ posted, so we can start filling this class!

Did anybody else get the email today from BIR about their teen driving school ? Holy carp, it's expensive. This MAC Teen School is one heck of a deal. Although, if you threw in a 'free' t-shirt, maybe you could jack the price up a few hundred dollars :p

They had some disturbing stats, to help with their sales pitch:

A teen driver is in a car crash every 16 seconds
1-in-5 16-year-olds crash in their first year of driving
77% of all 16 year olds' crashes are due to driver error
The #1 killer of teens is auto related accidents

Hey members, lets keep this going! We have room for 24 students, lets see if we can fill this as fast as the MOWOG events fill.

And, for those who have offered to help and signed up on the other thread, I'll be getting with Shane over the upcoming novice school weekend to finalize the manuals and other info, and getting that out for your review shortly. Watch your email boxes.

C'mon MAC members, still only 4 signed up!?!?!

Lots of flyers went out at M1 and M2, and lots of hours to plan and set this all up.

Mothers day is a great day for family- anyone in YOUR family who would benefit from this?
