As a result of Phil's rule clarification, I want to announce that pre-registered multiple entries will not be accepted for the Valleyfair event. Should we come up short of the entry cap, I will allow on site multiple entries on a first come, first serve basis. This will be announced at the event should it be necessary.
By multiple entries, I mean a driver entering more than once. Multiple drivers of a car are allowed according to existing rules. Thanks all!

I am assuming this was voted on at the Febuary meeting and I wish I could have been there to hear the arguments surrounding the issue. Was anyone there that could give me insight to the discussion pertaining to this decision?

Steve,
I believe this can be the EM's call, I wasn't at the meeting but if it was not discussed I believe we need to do as Pat wants, this is being run different than a regular event (grids etc) and therefore has different needs. While I would also like to run two cars it would be better for the club if we have 150 different drivers get exposure to our club...

I don't believe this issue was discussed at the membership meeting. It was discussed here: http://forum.mnautox.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1113
In any case, it's entirely within the EM's rights to modify some of the event operation rules to suit a particular event - and Pat felt this was the right way to go for the Valleyfair event. Note - he is leaving the door open for multiple entries, if we don't reach the entry limit. We'll be in line together for a second registration, if that happens!;)

Co-drives were talked about at the Christmas party. The thought was this event would be more like a CenDiv event where co-drives are not allowed because of the competitive edge gained by doing so. This is Pats call all the way. The hope is we will draw from the Milwaukee and Iowa region. I'm sure we are promoting the event in both regions.
Last check with myautoevents.com the count was at 34.
We should promote and allow people to register for Valley Fair at both the Novice school and MOWOG I. Not everyone has a computer, most do but may choose not to register on-line.

I didn't question the idea or merit, and I would like to thank Mr.Washburn for all of his hard work, effort, and expertise he has put into this event and other club activities year after year.
I was just inquiring how this came about and from Paul's statement I am guessing it was not discussed with the board or at the monthly membership meeting. Knowing this I referred back to Phil's message that Pat referred too. (shown below) Confused yet!!
____
"1.1 These rules shall be applicable at all autocrosses except for
changes made by an Eventmaster. The Eventmaster may not change items
labeled "No exceptions". Entrants shall be informed of these changes prior
to registration, and they should be reviewed at the drivers meeting."
The rule
"2.3 A driver may enter an event more than once, but only once per class."
is NOT in a section marked "no exceptions", so the EM can change it before registration opens. I'd suggest that this decision be well-publicized long before the event.
In any case, you can't flip-flop. The policy has to be in place and fixed before registration opens.
_____
Anyways, I agree with Pat’s decision and as a organization we will need to look at the rules next year and clarify them unless we have what “open registration” defined. because in my eyes without definition of this I would assume that as soon as it is posted on myautoevents.com registration is open.

You have a good point, I think the fact of the matter is that the ValleyFair event was a moving target and so we need to go with the flow.

Thanks for not lambasting me as the bad guy! I think it is in the best interest of this particurlar event.
FWIW, I don't think any rules need clarifying. It is clear that any rule not marked "No Exceptions" is subject to change on an event by event basis by the EM. I think this needs to be there since different site/event consideration may require minor changes being made to rules. Total inflexibility can be bad too.
I also think that if this is done by the EM, they have to announce this and make it well known before the event....no sneaky rules changing on the fly. This promotes good planning. Hopefully this announcement will serve well enough, and the registration folks knowing this will also be able to tell people if asked. Thanks guys!

The following notice has been posted on the Event listing for Valleyfair.
SUPPLEMENTAL RULES FOR THIS EVENT:
Individual drivers may only pre-register once for the Valleyfair event - multiple entries will not be accepted. Should the entry cap not be reached by day of event, multiple entries may be allowed on a first come, first serve basis, at the Event Master's discretion. Note: multiple-driver cars will be permitted, per the 2004 Met Council Autocross Rules.

Valley Fair Event!
I just looked at Myautoevents.com and the reregister count is at 130. This event will fill before the end of the week. If you’re not registered, do it now or you will miss out.

Given the positive entry response, and the compexities with scurrying around to accomidate multiple entries, I think it is wise at this time to eliminate the chance for multiple entries.
Everyone will (hopefully) get 6 runs on a very large course, so seat time will not be lacking. I think it's better to concentrate on this, and the running of a quility event, than to worry about multiple entries. Thanks everyone...can't wait for this weekend!
BTW, the course length is around 3,500 feet!

For those not following the bread crumbs here, Pat means that one driver can not enter two cars. Pat can make that statement, since he is the eventmaster and has made the ruling before registration opens at the event.
Two drivers sharing the same car? Still OK.
