A fellow autocrosser in Milwaukee has put together a Group Buy with Big Bear Tire for Falken Azenis, per the message below. The prices are VERY good, and Big Bear is a solid company. I'm sure Dwight would give you a deal on mounting/balancing.

OK, here is the final pricing I got. The groupbuy is thru Big Bear Tire (www.bigbeartire.com) in Oconomowoc, WI. If you are located in WI you will need to pay sales tax, for all other states see the shipped prices below. For those of you that are local (WI) and want to pick the tires --- the price above will include mounting, balancing will be an additional if needed.

195/60/14 -- $50 shipped
205/50/15 -- $67 shipped
205/55/16 -- $90 shipped
215/45/16 -- $102 shipped
225/45/17 -- $108 shipped
245/45/17 -- $122 shipped

To place your order you need to email Marty at Big Bear Tire via mail at marty.bbtire@choiceonemailcom You need to have the subject line to be Falken Azenis Groupbuy to get the prices above. Include in the email your Full Name, shipping address, the size and number of tire. If you like you can include your CC info in the email, or you can call them with the info AFTER you have sent them your info. This will help them keep everything organized.

We need to get a group of people to contact him before he will begin to give this price, so if you are ready to order please do so soon so we can get tires out to everyone. For those of you that are local and want to pick the tires --- the price above will include mounting, balancing will be an additional if needed.

If you have any additional questions you can email me back, or you can talk to Marty @ Big Bear Tire.

Feel free to email this onto other to get into the GB....

Happy Racing,
-Jason Frank

Nice price. Who do we contact?

I'm hoping to wait until the new compound comes out (the Azenis RT-215), but I don't know when that will happen!

Just send an email to the guy at Big Bear Tire, per the instructions above. It doesn't sound like the new Azenis will be out any time soon. Neither will the Hankook Z212, which many are predicting will be the street tire to have when it comes out. I know I'm planning to order a set prior to SCCA Nationals.

p.s. Note: RT-215 is actually the designation of the CURRENT Azenis model. See a listing here: http://www.falkentire.com/tires/az_rs_sizes.htm

Yep, those prices are shipped to your door. FWIW - the prices are approx. $10/tire cheaper than Discount Tire, plus you don't have to pay sales tax.

Thanks for the info Steve
When did Falken change the tire from a RS to a RT?

I don't think it is. I think they updated their website, but the new tires are not available here yet.

I base this on a tire website in Singapore that talks specifically about the new compound (AZ Compound II) and the RT-215:

http://www.stamfordtyres.com/tpl/products_falken_rt215.html

As 73GT says, the currentlt available model is the Azenis Sport RS - although you'd be hard pressed to find the RS designation anywhere.

There have been a lot of rumors flying around about the mysterious "new" Azenis for at least a year now. From what I've been told by Falken, the tires now sold in the U.S. are using the "Compound II". If you look at the Stamford Tyres website, the tread design and tire sizes are identical to those offered here, with the addition of a few sizes not offered in the U.S. Please note - the copyright on the Stamford page is 2002, and I read a post for the same site on miata.net early last Spring! I'm pretty certain RT-215 is simply the designation used for the same tire overseas for the past couple of years.

I did get a response from a Falken Tire rep late last year, indicating that an entirely new tire would be coming out in "about a year". However, they appear to be way behind schedule, as there aren't even any test sets, tread photos, etc. floating around yet.

Not a bad price.

Steve, Do you have anymore info on the Hankook Z212's?

Did a search on Google and it came up empty.

Yeah, the Z212 is the real "wild card" tire for 2004 - not much info is available yet. It could end up being "the" street tire to have for Nationals. Plus, Hankook pays contingency!

Here's a thread on SCCAForums, discussing the tire:

I emailed "Tires.Com" about the ST-215, and this was their reply:

Greetings from Discount Tire Direct.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not have much information on the RT-215,
so I contacted Falken.
The RT-215 is actually the current Azenis Sport with a new name.
There is no change in the tread compound, or any other part of
the tire.

We have some of the 195/60R14 Azenis Sport tires in stock for
only $56.00 each.

If we can be of further assistance, please reply to this e-mail
or contact us by either of the following methods:
Phone:800-589-6789
Live Help: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/holidayCheck.do

Sincerely,

So, I don't know.

I called Big Bear Tire and placed my order. I was near Milwaukee yesterday on business, and stopped by to pick them up. Got them at the advertised price with a smile. Nice folks.

I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but I actually found that I could get the tires cheaper from Vulcan Tire Sales (www.vulcantire.com). For example, I would need 205/55R16 tires. This group buy price is $90/tire shipped while Vulcan can do it for $87.50/tire shipped.

Just thought I'd let you all know.
