View Full Version : M9 run format.

Since I'm closer to the GEICO caveman than I want to admit with it comes to computers, and have no clue how to set up a "poll", I'll just pitch this out for discussion.
The M9 couse will be fast and flowing. Count on it. Weather permitting, we'll shoot alot of cars thru it in a short time period.
What run format would be preferred by the masses:
* 6 timed runs, and a ton of buck/fun/instructional runs
* 8 timed runs, and a bunch of buck/fun/instructional runs
* As many timed runs as we can fit in, and whatever buck/fun/instructional runs we have time left for.
Keep in mind at this time this is a plan only- cars that blow up, (hopefully not the 914 but no promises), timing glitches, weather, and who knows what else could change what is possible in the day. Just looking for a target to shoot for.
Post your replies here.

I think we should have a ton of fun runs. If it were up to me, I'd commit to no more than 6 timed runs. no matter how early we get them done. This is the last event of the year. Many people are going to want to ride in or drive each other's cars. One reason is there is going to be the usual changes of ownership for next season, and folks will want to try out their purchases or see if they really want to by that type of car even if this individual car is not for sale.
This plan really has something for everybody.
People who want to get done and get home can do so.
People who want to extend the event for bragging rights with a buddy can do so.
People who want to drive until the eventmasters drag them away can do so.
Really, I don't see why any event needs more than 6 timed runs. 6 are plenty for competition, twice the SCCA minimum. I'd feel cheated if the course got taken down and everybody went home at 2:00, but if the course is there for fun runs, it's all good.
BTW, it is imperative that the fun-run crowd be split and that the course be manned through fun runs. Fun runs where the course is quickly disassembled or a few people get stuck with maintaining the course and don't get any fun runs are a whole lot less fun. But you knew that.
I'm with Phile on this one...6 timed runs ,and then up to you

+1 . . . . .
Agree on the 6 run format. It's not a test and tune.
I'd suggest maybe an organized format / roster to the fun runs so that people don't get "closed out" (like MOWOG 8 ) due to difficulty coordinating between multiple drivers / cars.
Perhaps a "fun run-run list" that people sign up for.
Maybe a thread where people post "want to trade" drives and rides?

1 timed run, and then tons and tons of buck runs :)
(seriously, my vote is for as many buck runs as possible)
I like the idea of 6 timed runs. Then if time management allows, we can always increase runs or have buck runs in the end.

6 timed + as many as possible fun runs.

I'm expecting some of the group will want to drive and go home. Thats fine. I see a meeting after the timed runs conclude. Say we have 100 drivers. 40 choose to go home. 60 remain. We'd set up 2 groups of 30, each to run for, say, 45 min each, (or whatever time frame works). Before we break out to play, we would allow some mix and match between the groups so those who want to ride togather or swap cars can be in the same group, trying to keep the groups at 30 or so each. This may not allow perfectly for everyone to have a shot at every car they want to, but if within the 2 run groups, say 10 people want to do a key box, go for it. If the other 20 in the group don't, thats fine too. I think setting this up on the fly would be better than trying to organize it to the last driver prior to the event, as there could be some who say they'll stay but have to leave, and others who decide to stay who weren't on "the list". So it probably is a good thing to start chatting up those you want to ride/drive with now, and at the event, to speed up the group set up. And lets not end up with 1 group of 50 and one of 10. The group of 10 is gonna get lots more runs in their 45 min session...

Just a thought, perhaps we should here from some folks that are still in a points battle for the MAC championship? They may appriciate 8 timed runs, and besides watching the C Stock/PAX battle last year was almost as much fun as driving!
My vote would be for 8 timed runs and a bunch of fun runs.

Don't increase the timed runs. 6 runs. If time management allows, more fun runs.

That cuts both ways. Giving your competition additional runs when you can get your fastest time in 6 may not be the best deal either. I won't be there, so I won't 'vote'...just 2 cents worth.

Yeah, if you can't do it in 6, you can't do it.*

my vote would be for 6 timed runs + fun runs.
This way it follows the standard MAC event more closely.
Just mho.

6 runs and fun runs, or just fun runs all day would be fine with me (as i dont care about competition this year).

Till there's cords showing!
As one of the ones whom the event (sort of) matters:
I still vote for 6 runs, then buck runs.
Then pizza! (I'd just as soon skip the competition and fun runs and just go straight for the pizzas.)
