View Full Version : May 2nd Valleyfair Event - Name Contest!
MNbiker
01-30-2004, 11:23 AM
As many of you are aware, MAC has committed to holding an event at Valleyfair in Shakopee, May 2nd. We had to pay far more than usual to access this site, but the spacious facilities at Valleyfair will allow a much larger event, both in terms of course layout and number of competitors. We're going to have a LOT of fun!
One of the first things we need to do is give the event a name. We want something catchy that ties into Valleyfair, being by the river, early season, etc. Post your proposed event name(s) on this thread no later than Feb. 8, 2004. The contest is closed! The winning name will be selected by the event organizing committee, and the originator will receive a free event t-shirt! (I know, not a HUGE prize, but it's better than nothing, right?)
Let the creativity fly!

2004 Valleyfair autocross event
How about the 'Big'un' ?
NO?
Well Ok then, we can use these names, MAC, Minnesota Autosports Club, Valley Fair, Minnesota river 'national like event' Mowog?
No, this isn't a Mowog event.
Corvettes of Minnesota used the name, COMANSAC, for their event that was held at the Minnesota Air national Guard base.

How about: "the BIG one"
or: "the valley fair afair"
or: "the apple valley auto cross"
or: "Minnesota Motorsports Madness!!!"
or: "I need another new T shirt" (wait, that ones not so good)
or: "Go Fast. Have Fun. Autocross."
or: "Speed Changes You. Autocross."
or: "Apple Valley Apex Association presents: Spring Fling 2004"
or: "A May to Remember..." (kinda sounds like a prom slogan...)
more to come as I think on this a little more...

I like Paul's "Valleyfair Pylon Dance & Autocross"...
I looked up May 2nd holidays, and there is a Spanish holiday called Dos de Mayo.
Dos de Mayo : Minnesota Autosports Club
or
Spring Break 2004 : Shakopee, MN
(I think it'd be kinda hokey to use the name of a ride in the title. IMHO...)

Thunder in the Valley
or
Thunder River Run (if VF doesn't have issues using the name of one of their rides)

Maddydaddy - my favorite caption, so far. Just not sure how we'd make it into an event name - maybe part of the description.....
Dwight - weak, really weak....:p
Everyone else - it's a start. Keep the ideas coming!
-Steve
Steve, it may be weak, but look what it started.

02-01-2004, 01:47 AM
What does ARCC mean?
Here are a few more ideas...
-Shakopee Show Down
-Minnesota River Valley Auto a Fair
-"Quick & Twisted" The only ride you drive
-"Valley a Fair" Where the fastest rides are in the parking lot...
I would say my last is probably the best. I guess we will see

It could also be spelled as
"Valley Affair"
where the fastest rides are in the ****ng lot

Me again,
I checked Webster.com & if we really want to add the romantic connotation we can add the "e" to the end.
"also af·faire a : a romantic or passionate attachment typically of limited duration : LIAISON 2b b : a matter occasioning public anxiety, controversy, or scandal : CASE"
Thus
"Valley Affaire"
Where the fastest rides are in the parking lot
I hate to keep going on about this one, but I really kind of like it
I'll shut up now

What do you MEAN, it's not a MOWOG event?
It's an event, by MAC, held under Met Council rules. For what reason should it NOT be a MOWOG event?
Did somebody vote on this and I slept through it?
BTW, the COM event was COMMANGSAC.

Phil,
Actually, a group of us did discuss the issue of MOWOG Series events a bit, after adjournment. I started a new thread in the Officers Section to discuss this and other schedule-related issues.
And now, back to the naming contest! ;)

More name ideas:
If we're into acronyms, GFOGH. Doesn't roll off as easy as ARCC, but Go Fast Or Go Home, while a little "fast and furious" sounding has a competitive ring to it.
If we're into keeping MAC in the spotlight, how about "MAC ATTACK" in the valley, or MAC ATTACK by the river, or something like that. If we use this slogan, and the event gets to large, would we be the BIG MAC attack, and if so, should we solicit sponsorship from the clown at the golden arches?
just rambling...

"Go Fast Or Go Home" is exactly wrong for the sport, IMHO. One of the beauties of autocrossing is that it is just as fun for the slow guys. Unlike in racing, a slow guy is not in the way of, or a danger to, the fast guys, so everyone is welcome.
The "MAC For Your Amusement" concept seems to have some possibilities. It's a good way to refer to ValleyFaire without using their name.

I like MAC ATTACK, maybe with "Every Pylon's Worst Nightmare" as a subhead . . . with a photo of one of the REALLY beat-up, shredded cones.
Or, for a rollercoaster-like name, "The Pylonator."
Steve.

Phil: didn't mean to offend your delicate sensibilites with GFOGH, it just sounded kinda tough and cool, lots of attitude, but maybe not the right attitude. ;) Hopefully my car number is O.K. I don't think 473 is the sign of much of anything, except the first 3 #'s of my VIN...
Steve: MacAttack isn't half bad, but I like "the Pylonator" as a line to fit into the promo somewhere...
Hey, just who started this thread? :flame:
Where is he?
So far, nothing really gets me enthused.
But, don't give up, there are some that are close.
DCM
P.S. MAC ATTACK isn't bad. Shorten it up to; MACATK.
Or, VFMACATK. Uh, doesn't roll off the tongue though.
Keep going, gettin' closer.

Back in the last century, MAC did an event at BIR. it was called; 'MAC does BIR'
This may not be as fast a venue, but it'll be bigger in terms of numbers.
My contibution would be, 'MAC does Valley Fair'
